Thembinkosi Booi Makes Gospel Comeback With New EP Themba iNkosi

Thembinkosi Booi new EP

After years away from releasing new music, South African gospel veteran Thembinkosi Booi has stepped back into the spotlight with a powerful message of faith, hope and renewal.

The acclaimed singer has released his latest EP, Themba iNkosi (Trust the Lord), marking a significant return for an artist whose voice has been part of South Africa’s gospel landscape for decades.

Booi last released a music project in 2021, a period overshadowed by the challenges brought on by the Covid 19 pandemic. He admitted that the timing affected the performance of that release, but the setback did not silence his passion for gospel music.

Now, with a fresh approach and renewed energy, the musician is ready to begin a new chapter in his career.

A Gospel Journey Built Over Decades

Thembinkosi Booi’s connection with gospel music began when he was just 14 years old while living in Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape.

From those early beginnings, he developed a deep passion for uplifting audiences through music. His dedication eventually led to the release of his debut album in 2000, a project that earned critical praise and achieved major commercial success.

The album went platinum after selling more than 50,000 copies, establishing Booi as one of the respected voices in South African gospel music.

Over the years, he has worked alongside some of the country’s most celebrated gospel musicians, including Rebecca Malope, Sipho Makhabane, Kholeka Dubula and the late Lundi Tyamara.

These collaborations have strengthened his reputation as an artist who has contributed greatly to the growth of gospel music in South Africa.

More Than a Singer, A Mentor to Young Artists

While Booi is known for his own recordings, his influence extends beyond the stage.

The gospel artist has spent years supporting and mentoring emerging musicians, helping young talent find their place in an industry that continues to evolve.

His commitment to developing new voices has become an important part of his legacy, reflecting his belief that gospel music is not only about performance but also about building communities and inspiring future generations.

A New Chapter With Pika Records

For his latest project, Booi has partnered with Pika Records as he looks to approach the music industry differently.

The singer said he intends to take a fresh direction with this phase of his career, drawing from his past experiences while embracing new opportunities.

His new EP, Themba iNkosi, was officially released on Tuesday and is gradually becoming available across digital and physical music platforms.

The project represents more than a return to recording. It reflects an artist who has weathered challenges, remained committed to his calling and returned with a renewed message of faith.

After decades of serving gospel audiences, Thembinkosi Booi’s comeback signals that his musical journey is far from over.
