POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed three life sentences handed down by the Polokwane High Court on Friday, 01 November 2024 against a 33-year-old, Emmanuel Charles Maboko, for cases of murder, unlawful possession of firearm and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) . Through investigations, the Polokwane High Court found that in March and April 2022, the accused killed three male victims and assaulted the employees at a BMW company in Polokwane, stolen a vehicle and was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. In an incident that occurred at Polokwane, he shot and killed a 53-year-old man, Mohamed Saber Tayob, who was a professor at the University of Limpopo, on 13 March 2022 at Sterkpark in Polokwane. Another incident took place in Mabocha village, at Tubatse, on 01 April 2022, wherein he shot and killed Malatji Putana Lucas (33), who was building the accused a house. On 04 April 2022, the accused further went to BMW motor vehicle dealership in Nirvana, Westenburg policing area, armed with a firearm, and demanded the car keys of a grey BMW X6. In the process, a male customer, Luvhimbi Edward Muofhe (57), who took his vehicle for service, was shot and killed by the accused. He also assaulted the employees at the company. Subsequent to investigations, the suspect was tracked down and arrested. All his cases were assigned to Sergeant Florence Concilia Tlhatlha of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit.
Cases were registered at Polokwane, Tubatse, and Westenburg. Investigating Officer ensured that this murderer was never granted bail until his sentencing was handed as follows: * Count 1, murder: Life imprisonment * Count 2, murder: Life imprisonment * Count 3, murder: Life imprisonment * Count 4, assault GBH: Fifteen (15) years imprisonment * Count 5, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition: Three (03) years impresonment. Count 5 will run concurrently with count 4. “I would like to appreciate the dedication and commitment displayed by investigating officer and everyone involved in cases until the final hefty sentencing by court emphasizing that justice has been served,” concluded the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
