The annual Cotton Fest event which was owned by the late Award winning rapper Riky Ricky has come to an end.

Real name Rikhado Muziwendlovu Makhado, the Sidlukotin singer passed away by committing suicide in February 2022.
Despite this tragic incident, the event continued to happen under the leadership of his wife and festival founder Riky Rick’s partner, Bianca Naidoo.
In a statement sent to the media house it read:
‘It is with heavy hearts that the organisers of CottonFest today announced that the festival has come to an end.”
The statement further following the initial announcement of the 2026 festival on social media earlier this year, differences among the current shareholders have led to disputes between them.
“After careful internal review and consideration, it has become clear that the shareholders no longer share the same long-term vision. This divergence has placed strain on operations and made it increasingly challenging to continue the festival in a manner that upholds the standards and vision set out by its sole founder, Riky Rick,” the statement reads.
“CottonFest has always been rooted in creativity, community and cultural celebration focused on creating a platform for the youth to shine,” stated CottonFest owner and organiser Bianca Naidoo. “While we remain extremely proud of what the festival has achieved and are deeply grateful for the support it has received from our fans, partners and the artists over the years, the differences in festival’s vision and purpose among the two parties has made it clear to our family and the team, that concluding this chapter is the most realistic path forward.
“The team emphasizes that this decision was made after careful consideration, and in the best interest of all parties involved, including staff, collaborators and the broader community that has supported the festival since its inception over 7 years ago.Together with the Makhado family we express appreciation for everyone who have contributed to CottonFest’s growth and its impact on the arts and entertainment landscape and the drive to keep Riky’s legacy alive,” the statement reads.
The statement also said that although the festival will not continue under its existing structure, the Creative Programme, launched in 2025, it will continue to build on the initiatives it has already achieved, in creating different opportunities for young talent throughout the year.
It said current ticket holders can request their full refunds from Webtickets (under their self help process) from today.
