Convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester has suffered another legal setback after the Pretoria High Court dismissed his urgent application challenging his transfer from Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre to Ebongweni Super Maximum Prison.
In a ruling delivered on 4 March 2026, the court found that Bester’s application to have the transfer declared unconstitutional lacked merit. The decision means Bester will remain incarcerated at the high security Ebongweni facility, where he was moved following his dramatic escape from prison that shocked South Africa.
Bester, widely known as the “Facebook Rapist,” previously made headlines after faking his death in prison before escaping in 2022. His case has remained one of the most closely followed criminal justice stories in the country.
This latest ruling is another major blow in Bester’s ongoing legal battles as authorities continue tightening security around his detention.
