Media Statement POLOKWANE – Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court has on Thursday 26 September 2024, granted R1000.00 bail to a 32 -year-old foreign National on a charge of bribery of police committed on Wednesday 25 September 2024 at about 09:00. Furthermore, Salita Dessalegn Takale was instructed by the court to make his second appearance on 23 October 2024 and also sign the attendance register every Tuesday at 07:00 at SAPS Malipsdrift. It is reported that the Officer under Capricorn District was busy with her daily police duty at the local spaza shops when she entered the one owned by a foreign National. While busy executing her duties, she seemingly requested a 32-year-old Ethiopian National to hand over his passport for inspection. The suspect produced an expired asylum seeker document. While busy inspecting it, the officer noticed illicit cigarettes placed on the counter. The suspect was asked about the origin of the cigarettes but instead of responding to the question, he allegedly offered an undisclosed amount of cash to the Officer not to arrest him. A 32 year-old was apprehended on the spot for bribery by the police. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Major General Samuel Manala was full of praise to the senior officer for being firm against corruption and further displaying a positive behavior by arresting the suspect who did not show any respect for the rule of law.
