POTCHEFSTROOM – A 47-year-old primary school teacher appeared before the Wolmaransstad Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 17 May 2024, in connection with the alleged rape of minors The suspect’s court appearance emanates from his arrest on Thursday, 16 May 2024, at Leeudoringstad after the mother and the principal of the two minors, aged 12 and 14, registered cases at the local police station on Tuesday, 14 May 2024. It is alleged that the teacher would ask the two minors to help him carry books or go and fetch something at his office, where he performed sexual acts. He was arrested at the school on Thursday, 16 May 2024. The accused was remanded in custody until Tuesday, 21 May 2024, for formal bail application.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the incident and said it is sad that the victims were allegedy ubused by someone who was supposed to protect them.
