Taxi driver and passenger shot dead in Waterloo, KZN
A taxi driver and a passenger were shot and killed in a violent attack on Masingana Road in Phase 6, Waterloo, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday evening.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the scene at around 19h36 after being alerted by an off-duty South African Police Service (SAPS) detective. Officers arrived to find a white Toyota Quantum taxi overturned, with the driver’s lifeless body inside. A second victim, a male passenger, was discovered roughly 150 meters away, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Preliminary reports suggest the gunman was a passenger seated in the front of the minibus. Without warning, he shot the driver, causing the vehicle to veer out of control and roll before overturning. As chaos unfolded, a passenger in the rear attempted to escape but was also gunned down. The assailant then fled the scene on foot.
Two female passengers inside the taxi survived the attack uninjured. The motive for the shooting remains unknown as authorities launch an investigation into the deadly ambush.
