A Tzaneen family, mourning an 18 year old Kgopotso Remember Mushwana, who was stabbed to death last week at Wisani Village, outside Tzaneen, is deeply hurt by misleading information spreading on social media concerning their loved ones.

The family said Kgopotso was not in a love relationship with Matome Masiya( 26) who repairs phones for a living.

“This is the first time I hear about the young man who took the life of my daughter and best friend. Kgopotso was in a relationship with a boy from Lenyenye township, ” said a grieving mother.

The mother confirmed that the Lenyenye family contacted them as soon as they heard about the incident and asked for permission to return her brand new sneakers, which she left at their place.

According to the family, Kgopotso left home around 10:00 pm to accompany a female friend to a hair salon.

Matome, who has been stalking that night, ambushed them and requested to talk to her, but she refused.

It is not clear which object, he used to strike her to the stomach.

It is believed that, before she took her last breath at Letaba hospital, she told the nurses that the person who pinned a object in her belly ( abdomen) is Matome, and she was never in a relationship with the suspect

It is believed that Matome had tried several times to win her over, but his proposal was turned down every time.

“I’m in pain,” said Mrs Mushwana

As police manhunt for Matome continues, she had a message for him

“If my daughter has ever wronged Matome, I wish he could have come to me and plead his case than resulting in taking her life,” said the mother

Kgopotso was an intelligent student in physics and mathematics. She passed her Grade 11 with flying colors and was excited to form part of the class of 2026.

“She wanted to become a nurse and improve my life conditions. Someone decided to take my child before her time.” said Mrs Mushwana as she withheld tears.

The family said they haven’t received any update regarding the case, and detective’s in charge of the case haven’t paid a visit at home or phone them.

Kgopotso was laid to rest on Sunday.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the incident and immediately instructed the police to search for the perpetrator to face the full might of the law.

“Domestic violence is a big challenge in our Province and has been declared a national disaster by the President of the Country His Excellency Ramaphosa and anyone perpetuating it must face the consequences ” said the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Hadebe.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is requested to contact the investigating officer , Sergeant Eric Mathebula, on 083 239 0977,Crime stop number 08600 10111.

Cape Town is facing a heartbreaking crisis as children continue to be caught in the deadly crossfire of gang violence. More than 150 children have been killed on the Cape Flats in the past five years—an alarming statistic that reflects a community living in fear, grief, and frustration.

In just the past week, at least six children between the ages of four and 16 became victims of brutal attacks across the city. With school holidays approaching—a time when children spend more hours outdoors—residents fear the violence will only escalate.

One of the youngest victims was nine-year-old Zechariah Matthee, who was shot and killed during a mass shooting in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain. He had been hiding in a cupboard when gunmen opened fire, but was still struck in the head. He was one of three people killed that night.

His death has shattered his family and reignited calls for urgent intervention. At a community memorial, loved ones wept as they demanded justice and safer neighbourhoods for their children. Community safety advocates described Zechariah’s death as a painful reminder of how often innocent children are left exposed while gangs roam freely.

The violence did not stop there. In Kensington, 14-year-old Alnika Mitchell was shot dead while watching learners celebrate their matric farewells. And in Cloetesville, Stellenbosch, gunmen in a passing vehicle opened fire on an adult, hitting a four-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy. The little girl is fighting for her life in hospital.

Community organisations say the pattern is tragically familiar: children gunned down in homes, yards, streets—spaces where they should be safest. Activists argue that deep-rooted poverty, inequality, and the easy availability of illegal firearms continue to fuel the bloodshed, while policing remains slow, overstretched, or ineffective.

They warn that without focused, specialised policing and real accountability, more families will endure the same heartbreak.

Local leaders have condemned the violence, calling it a devastating contradiction during a period when the country is supposed to be observing 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. They say the killings expose a moral and systemic collapse, and urge law enforcement to increase visible policing in known hotspots and ensure swift arrests and prosecutions.

As communities gather in grief, one message rings out clearly: Cape Town’s children deserve to grow up without fear. And without urgent, coordinated action, more young lives will be lost to the violence tearing through the Cape Flats.

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the deadly shooting in Westbury, Johannesburg, that claimed the lives of two teenagers and left five others injured.

The arrest took place at a high school in Diepkloof, Soweto, after the Anti-Gang Unit received key information from investigators about the suspect’s location. Officers moved in and detained the man without incident.

He is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, as police continue to search for other suspects linked to the shooting.

The incident, believed to be gang-related, happened last week when a group of seven teenagers, aged between 13 and 19, were attacked on Croesus Street in Westbury. Witnesses said four men approached the teens—three armed—and opened fire without warning before fleeing the scene.

Two of the teenagers were pronounced dead, while five others were rushed to hospital. Police later confirmed that two of the injured victims have since been discharged.

Residents in the area have described the shooting as yet another tragic reminder of how gang violence continues to tear through their community.

Police are urging anyone with information about the remaining suspects to come forward by contacting Crime Stop at 08600 10111. Callers can remain anonymous.

Police in South Africa’s North West Province are investigating a disturbing murder in Mosiane View village, Mahikeng, where a 25-year-old man allegedly killed his 48-year-old mother using a shovel on Saturday morning.

A video circulating on social media shows the son attacking his mother in a brutal assault. According to police, the young man later died after being struck by a bullet fired by a neighbour who was trying to stop the attack.

The motive behind the incident remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing. North West Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Patrick Asaneng condemned the act as “sadistic, gruesome, and senseless,” suggesting it may be linked to possible drug abuse or ritualistic influences.

He added that the tragedy reflects deeper social issues often ignored by families and society, emphasizing the need for communities to recognize early warning signs in troubled youth. The SAPS Occult Related Crimes Unit has been assigned to investigate the case further to uncover the full circumstances behind the incident.
