The suspect accused of murdering Marius van der Merwe, also known as Witness D, has appeared before the Brakpan Magistrates Court.

Van der Merwe’s killing is linked to matters connected to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

The suspect was arrested in Johannesburg on Saturday, 14 March 2026, by a specialised SAPS task team established by National Commissioner Fannie Masemola.

Police previously confirmed that investigators gathered overwhelming evidence before securing a J50 warrant of arrest.

Authorities also seized the vehicle believed to have been used during the murder, while search-and-seizure operations were conducted at several addresses linked to the suspect.

The case is expected to continue as the court process unfolds.
