The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen, with the World Health Organization confirming that at least 400 people have died from malnutrition since the beginning of the year. Among them are 101 children, including 80 under the age of five.

Health workers at Al-Awda Hospital report an alarming rise in severe malnutrition cases, now affecting children as young as two months and as old as twelve years. Dr. Rana Abu Zaatir, who heads the hospital’s nutrition department, warned that limited access to food and medical supplies is pushing Gaza toward a deeper crisis.

Only four malnutrition treatment centers remain operational in the entire region. With northern Gaza cut off from aid deliveries for weeks, hospitals are struggling to provide therapeutic food and basic care for starving patients.

“There are many children and adults dying from malnutrition and its complications,” said Dr. Zaatir. “If border crossings remain closed and food prices keep rising, we will face a real disaster. People simply don’t have enough to eat.”

The World Food Program has noted slight improvements in humanitarian access but insists that entry to northern Gaza must be restored immediately. The agency also emphasized that a lasting ceasefire is essential to deliver life-saving food to those most in need.

Experts estimate that around half a million people in Gaza City are already living in famine conditions, underscoring the urgent need for global intervention.

Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo are battling another Ebola outbreak, with eleven new cases confirmed in Kasai Province’s Bulape Health Zone.

The outbreak has now spread across six health areas — Bambalaie, Bulape, Bulape Communautaire, Dikolo, Ingongo, and Mpianga — bringing the total number of reported cases to 57. Of these, 47 are confirmed while 10 are considered probable. So far, 35 people have died, including five health workers.

Children are among the hardest hit, with those under nine years old making up nearly a quarter of all infections. Women also represent the majority of cases, at 61%, though men are dying at a higher rate.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and Africa CDC have raised concerns about the pace of vaccination. Only 400 initial doses of the Ervebo vaccine have reached the affected areas, though an additional 45,000 have been approved and are expected to arrive. Congo already has a small stockpile of 2,000 doses, but access and funding remain major obstacles.

This marks the country’s 16th Ebola outbreak since the virus was first identified in 1976, with the current strain traced to the deadly Zaire species. The crisis adds further pressure on a fragile healthcare system already burdened by ongoing conflict in the east, where rebel violence has left hospitals and communities struggling to cope.

The World Health Organization has voiced deep concern over recent military actions in central Gaza, claiming its operations have been severely impacted after its staff quarters and main warehouse were targeted and damaged during a renewed offensive.

The organization reported that one of its buildings, which was sheltering staff members and their families, was struck multiple times, forcing terrified women and children to flee on foot amid active gunfire. Male staff and relatives were reportedly detained, stripped, interrogated, and screened at gunpoint. While three were later released, one staff member remains in detention.

In addition to the assault on the residence, WHO’s central warehouse in the city was also hit, resulting in explosions and a subsequent fire. The facility was later looted by desperate civilians. WHO warned that these incidents form part of a broader trend of destruction targeting healthcare infrastructure across the region.

Efforts to continue providing medical support are now seriously compromised. With over two million people relying on humanitarian assistance, the destruction of facilities and ongoing displacement threaten to collapse an already fragile health system.

Tens of thousands of civilians have been forced to flee their homes in Deir al-Balah as ground operations intensify. The military recently issued evacuation orders for multiple blocks in the area, advising residents to move south toward safer zones. Humanitarian agencies, however, have chosen to remain in place to support those unable or unwilling to flee, stressing the urgent need for protection.

Reports emerging from the region describe worsening hunger and malnutrition. Clinics and hospitals are seeing increasing numbers of severely undernourished individuals, and several deaths have been linked to starvation in recent days.

The vast majority of Gaza is now either under evacuation orders or within heavily militarized zones. With over two million people squeezed into a shrinking area, essential services are collapsing and humanitarian corridors remain highly restricted.

The military campaign, which began in response to a deadly attack nearly two years ago, has resulted in significant civilian casualties. Despite international appeals for restraint, the violence has continued to escalate, with ongoing concerns over the safety of hostages still believed to be held in the territory.

Families of those captives have expressed fear that intensified operations might endanger their loved ones. Meanwhile, growing international criticism has centered on the toll the conflict has taken on civilians, especially those seeking aid and medical help.
