Residents in parts of Cape Town should prepare for temporary water outages as the city carries out planned maintenance on its water infrastructure next week.

The City of Cape Town has announced that water supply will be interrupted in specific areas on Tuesday, 15 July, for up to nine hours, as crews work to install new water mains and conduct essential repairs.

Areas Affected on Tuesday, 15 July:

Saxonsea, Avondale, and Robinvale: These neighborhoods will experience a full water shutdown from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM while infrastructure upgrades take place.

Kirstenbosch and Surrounding Roads: A test shut-off is scheduled between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM in parts of Bishopscourt. This is to prepare for a more extensive shutdown from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, 16 July. Homes on Kirstenbosch Drive, St Albans Close, and Riverside Road will be impacted.

Glen Garry Reservoir Closure: In a separate operation, the Glen Garry Reservoir will be out of service from Monday, 14 July, until Friday, 15 August, for annual cleaning and maintenance. During this period, alternative water supplies will be routed to the area, although water pressure may be lower than usual. The city will rely on the Wemmershoek and Blackheath Water Treatment Plants to maintain supply through the Tygerberg Reservoir.

City officials have stressed the importance of these works in maintaining the safety and reliability of Cape Town’s water supply. Residents are advised to plan ahead and store sufficient water for daily use during the shutdown periods.
