During operations carried out between August 25 and 31, inspectors issued 106 discontinue notices for cars deemed unfit for the road and 78 vehicles were impounded for failing to comply with traffic regulations. In addition, 224 manual infringement notices were issued on the spot, while another 186 violations were flagged electronically through the e-force system.

Johannesburg Metro Police have joined the effort, warning motorists that vehicles with three or more defects will be immediately discontinued and removed from the roads.

“Our goal is to reduce accidents caused by mechanical failures and enforce compliance with traffic laws,” said JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, stressing the importance of roadworthy checks for public safety.

Motorists are being urged to inspect their cars regularly to avoid fines and, more importantly, to prevent tragedies linked to preventable mechanical problems.
