]]> The South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) has issued an urgent advisory to South Africans stranded in Israel as Iranian strikes targeting civilian areas have disrupted air travel, halting outgoing flights. 

 

The Board, expressing solidarity with those affected, is working to ensure the safe return of South Africans once conditions allow.

 

In a statement, the SAJBD advised against attempting to leave Israel through neighboring countries, citing significant safety risks.

 

The recommendation, supported by an international group including the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is to remain in Israel until air travel resumes.

The SAJBD is collaborating with Ethiopian Airlines, which previously assisted South Africans during the COVID-19 crisis, to arrange repatriation flights as soon as Israeli authorities give clearance. “Ethiopian Airlines has assured us of their support, and we are grateful for their commitment,” the Board noted.

 

South Africans booked with or wishing to fly via Ethiopian Airlines are urged to send their contact details to sajbd@sajbd.org.

 

Others are advised to liaise with their travel agents to rebook flights promptly. The Board’s efforts reflect a coordinated response to support the South African community during this crisis, with prayers extended to all in Israel facing these challenging times.
