Botlhale Hakeem Thobejane, 18, the son of South African actress and media personality Tebogo Thobejane, is carving out his own path in the world of professional boxing.

The rising young fighter is currently training in Las Vegas at the world renowned Mayweather Boxing Club, a facility known for shaping champions and cultivating elite talent. Founded by undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., the gym has become synonymous with discipline, precision and a championship mindset.

Botlhale first stepped into a boxing gym at the age of 14, but it was in 2025 that he made a firm decision to pursue the sport seriously. His defining moment came two years ago when, at just 16, he met Mayweather in a life changing encounter that shifted his perspective entirely. What began as admiration quickly evolved into belief that the global stage was within reach.

Today, that belief is taking shape in Las Vegas, widely regarded as the fight capital of the world. Surrounded by seasoned professionals and immersed in an environment that demands excellence, Botlhale is refining his technique, strengthening his mindset and embracing the grind required to compete at the highest level.

“Training at Floyd Mayweather’s studio changed my mindset. It’s showing me that greatness is real, and it’s built through hard work. Being here now pushes me to give everything I have,” he says.

Beyond the ring, Botlhale has also demonstrated creative versatility. Earlier this year, he served as creative director during the Johannesburg stream of US digital star Darren Jason Watkins Jr., popularly known as IShow Speed. Balancing roles as a creative, a streamer and a disciplined athlete, he remains focused on growth and purpose.

CAT MATLALA’S BAIL APPEAL DISMISSED

The Johannesburg High Court has dismissed the bail appeal of Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, who faces multiple charges including conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and money laundering.

Delivering judgment on 27 October 2025, Acting Judge PJ du Plessis ruled that despite the Regional Magistrate applying the wrong schedule during the initial bail hearing, the correct legal standard (“interests of justice”) still did not favour Matlala’s release.

The court found that:

• Matlala remains a flight risk with both the means and opportunity to evade trial.

• There is a likelihood of interference with witnesses and the administration of justice.

• His continued detention is in the interests of justice, given the seriousness of the charges and the risk posed to the community.

The judgment also noted the State’s concession that it had erred regarding the timing of a key R100,000 payment, but ruled that this alone did not outweigh the other risks.

Matlala—dubbed “CAT”—is accused alongside four co-accused in three separate attempted murder cases involving socialite Tebogo Thobejane, businessman Sibanyoni, and DJ Mokubong (“DJ Wetties”).

His appeal was formally dismissed, meaning he will remain in custody pending trial.

CASE AGAINST BUSINESSMAN AND CO-ACCUSED POSTPONED FOR BAIL APPLICATION

The case against businessman Vusimuzi Matlala (49) and his partner, Sakani Matlala, has been postponed to 03 June 2025 for a formal bail application.

They face charges of attempted Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Fraud and Attempt to defeat the Ends of Justice, related to an alleged plot against TV actress Tebogo Thobejane. The duo, along with co-accused Musa Kekana (35) and Tiego Floyd Mabusela (47), who also face charges of Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder, are scheduled to appear in the High Court on 11 July 2025, for indictment.

The court postponed the bail application after the State presented new information and the defence requested time to prepare. The accused remain in custody, pending the outcome of their bail application.
