The post Tembeka Ngcukaitobi Sworn In as Acting Constitutional Court Justice in Major Boost for South Africa’s Highest Court appeared first on MDNtv.
]]>Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi SC was sworn in as an Acting Justice of South Africa’s Constitutional Court on Thursday, marking a significant moment for the judiciary as it navigates a demanding period of constitutional and legal challenges.
The ceremony saw Ngcukaitobi take the oath of office before Deputy Chief Justice Dunstan Mlambo, formally committing himself to uphold the Constitution, protect the rights enshrined within it, and administer justice without fear, favour or prejudice.
In a solemn pledge, the senior advocate affirmed his loyalty to the Republic and its constitutional values, underscoring the immense responsibility that comes with serving on the nation’s apex court.
Ngcukaitobi’s appointment follows a decision by Cyril Ramaphosa, who exercised his powers under Section 175(1) of the Constitution to appoint the renowned legal scholar as an Acting Justice. His term commenced on 1 June 2026 and will continue until 30 November 2026.
Widely regarded as one of South Africa’s leading advocates, Ngcukaitobi has built a distinguished career through his work in competition law, labour law and land law. Over the years, he has earned recognition for his sharp legal analysis and deep understanding of some of the country’s most complex constitutional questions.
His arrival at the Constitutional Court is expected to strengthen the institution during a busy judicial cycle, with the court continuing to play a pivotal role in shaping South Africa’s legal and democratic landscape.
The appointment has also drawn attention because of Ngcukaitobi’s standing within the legal profession, where he is viewed as a formidable courtroom advocate and influential legal thinker. His expertise in matters affecting economic regulation, workers’ rights and land reform has made him one of the most prominent voices in South African law.
As he begins his tenure on the Constitutional Court bench, expectations will be high that his experience and constitutional insight will contribute to the court’s ongoing mission of safeguarding democracy, protecting fundamental rights and ensuring that justice remains accessible to all South Africans.
For the country’s highest court, the arrival of Ngcukaitobi represents more than a routine appointment. It brings additional legal firepower at a time when the Constitutional Court continues to sit at the centre of many of South Africa’s most important legal and constitutional debates.

]]>Gauteng Deputy Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba has denied explosive allegations that he received money from alleged underworld figure Katiso Molefe, also known as โKTโ, to influence a bail outcome.
The claims surfaced during proceedings linked to the Madlanga Commission, where police witnesses alleged bribery involving multiple officials โ including a prosecutor and a judge โ in a bail appeal that Molefe successfully secured.
Ledwaba addressed these allegations before the Judicial Service Commission, which is currently interviewing candidates to fill key vacancies in the superior courts.
Despite the serious claims, Ledwaba remains the only shortlisted candidate for the powerful position of Judge President of the Gauteng Division of the High Court.
The situation raises critical questions about judicial accountability, transparency, and leadership at the highest level.
