Shabalala was rushed to hospital after a heavy challenge from Adams left him with a suspected dislocated shoulder during the fiery Betway Premiership encounter at Loftus Stadium.

The match, filled with tough tackles and high tension, ended in a 1-1 draw. Adams was later sent off after receiving a second yellow card for simulation.

Despite the drama, the Sundowns midfielder took to Instagram after the match to show support for the injured Chiefs star.

Posting a picture of Shabalala, Adams wrote: “Speedy recovery gazi .”

Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef later revealed that the injury could rule Shabalala out for the remainder of the season.

“Unfortunately he got a big injury, a fracture in his hand,” said Ben Youssef.

“I hope he recovers soon because he was fighting to be part of South Africa national soccer team and the World Cup squad.”

The Chiefs mentor also questioned the officiating and the level of physicality allowed during the game.

“We have to protect our younger players because football cannot be like that,” he added.

“You can’t expect this kind of challenge and only a yellow card is issued.”

Ben Youssef further claimed Chiefs were fortunate not to lose another key player after Gaston Sirino also received rough treatment during the match.

Ironically, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso also criticised the physical nature of the encounter after the final whistle, accusing Chiefs of turning the match into a battle rather than a football contest.
