The post MADLANGA COMMISSION DAY 5: MASEMOLA TESTIFIES ON SIBIYA, PKTT AND 121 DOCKETS appeared first on MDNtv.
]]>Masemola testified about the alleged removal of dockets from the PKTT, the role of senior SAPS officials, the dispute over whether the dockets should return to their stations of origin or remain with specialised investigators, and why he believed the task team still had critical work to do.
The testimony also touched on concerns around operational interference, the handling of politically linked murder investigations, the role of Lt-Gen Sibiya, and questions around who had authority over sensitive SAPS investigations.
According to the record, Masemola told the Commission that the 121 dockets were taken from the PKTT and that they were later found not to have been investigated while at head office.
This is one of the most important days of testimony in the Madlanga Commission as the inquiry continues probing criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system.

]]>The post MKHWANAZI WARNS OF TOTAL COLLAPSE OF SA’S CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM | MADLANGA COMMISSION DAY 1 appeared first on MDNtv.
]]>South Africa watched in shock as Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi delivered explosive testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into alleged corruption, political interference, and criminal infiltration inside the country’s criminal justice system.
In dramatic opening proceedings, the Commission warned that if the allegations are proven true, it could signal “doom” for South Africa’s criminal justice system. The inquiry is now investigating claims involving senior police officials, political interference, organised crime syndicates, tender corruption, and alleged attempts to sabotage sensitive investigations.
Mkhwanazi detailed how investigations into political killings, organised crime, and underworld-linked syndicates allegedly exposed deep corruption within SAPS and other institutions. The Commission also heard how cellphone records, task team investigations, and internal police operations may reveal a wider network of criminal influence inside law enforcement structures.
This is one of the most consequential public inquiries in democratic South Africa — with potential implications for the future of policing, governance, and the rule of law.

MKHWANAZI WARNS OF TOTAL COLLAPSE OF SA’S CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM | MADLANGA COMMISSION DAY 1
The post MKHWANAZI WARNS OF TOTAL COLLAPSE OF SA’S CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM | MADLANGA COMMISSION DAY 1 appeared first on MDNtv.
]]>The post MKHWANAZI TAKES ON PARLIAMENT AS HE CALLS OUT LEADERSHIP FAILURES IN EXPLOSIVE FINAL TESTIMONY appeared first on MDNtv.
]]>After months of intense testimony, Mkhwanazi did not hold back.
Instead of simply concluding his evidence, he turned his focus directly on committee members, questioning their leadership, approach and handling of the investigation.
He made it clear that the information he presented was not personal, but the result of a collective investigation, reinforcing the weight of the allegations before Parliament.
But the most striking moment came when he moved to correct the record.
Mkhwanazi requested permission to withdraw one allegation after revealing that a critical error had occurred during the extraction of data from Vusi Matlala’s devices.
According to his testimony, a case of mistaken identity led investigators to link financial transactions to the wrong individual.
The person, who had a number similar to former Police Minister Bheki Cele stored under the name Ndosi, allegedly received money from Matlala.
Believing it was legitimate, the man reportedly spent the money before communication with Matlala suddenly stopped.
Mkhwanazi confirmed that the individual would not face charges.
Despite this correction, he stood firm on all other allegations made earlier in the inquiry, refusing to retract any further claims.
The hearing intensified when a handwritten letter from a prisoner linked to Matlala was introduced.
The letter allegedly implicated high profile figures, including legal representatives connected to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, senior officials within the National Prosecuting Authority and other unnamed SAPS leadership figures.
Mkhwanazi went further, making bold claims about internal power struggles within law enforcement.
He suggested that if Mchunu had remained in office, key cases linked to Matlala could have collapsed and senior leadership positions within SAPS could have been reshaped.
He openly labelled senior officials within the police as untrustworthy and accused others of dishonesty, deepening the sense of division at the highest levels of law enforcement.
The tension spilled into open confrontation during exchanges with Members of Parliament, including a heated moment with MP Fadiel Adams.
But the proceedings continued.
In a powerful closing message, Mkhwanazi urged the committee to go further and seize the devices and full administrative records of Minister Mchunu as part of the investigation.
He also outlined what he described as the three critical drivers of crime in South Africa, pointing to cash in transit heists, tender systems and border control failures.
As the hearings officially come to an end, Committee Chairperson Soviet Lekganyane confirmed that the findings will soon be released to the public.
Now the country waits.
Because what started as a parliamentary inquiry has now exposed deep fractures within South Africa’s law enforcement leadership.
And the final report could have serious consequences for some of the most powerful figures in the system.

]]>The post MKHWANAZI DISPUTES ‘BOYS TRIP’ CLAIM, ACCUSES NKABINDE OF LYING UNDER OATH appeared first on MDNtv.
]]>Appearing before the Ad Hoc Committee, Mkhwanazi dismissed Nkabinde’s version of events as false and inconsistent with available evidence.
The dispute centres around testimony given by Nkabinde, who told the committee about a trip to Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal, where he claimed he and Mkhwanazi “passed by” and visited Senzo Mchunu.
Nkabinde described the trip as informal, suggesting it was a casual stop while travelling.
“At one stage I was in KZN and as I passed Empangeni, I remembered there was someone I knew here, and Mchunu welcomed me,” Nkabinde told the committee.
He further suggested that the relationship between himself and Mkhwanazi was close, adding that some aspects of the trip were personal and could not be disclosed.
However, Mkhwanazi strongly disputed this account.
He told the committee that the individuals involved were travelling in his wife’s vehicle and that he is prepared to provide full vehicle details for independent verification.
Mkhwanazi said tracking data from the vehicle would clearly contradict Nkabinde’s version.
According to him, the group did not randomly pass by Mchunu’s residence.
Instead, he stated that they departed directly from his home, went straight to Mchunu’s house, and later returned, a version that challenges the claim of an incidental visit.
The commissioner’s testimony has intensified scrutiny on the credibility of witnesses appearing before the committee, with questions now emerging about conflicting versions under oath.
The matter remains part of ongoing proceedings, with further evidence expected as the Ad Hoc Committee continues its hearings.

]]>National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola returns to Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee on Tuesday to respond to explosive claims made during recent SAPS hearings.
Masemola is expected to address key issues, including the controversial disbandment of the political killings task team and allegations that former Police Minister Senzo Mchunu interfered with his mandate.
In previous testimony, Masemola claimed that the instruction to shut down the task team undermined his authority and raised serious concerns about political interference within SAPS.
He also made shocking revelations about the influence of criminal cartels on policing structures during his tenure.
Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is set to take the stand on Wednesday, as Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee enters its final phase.

The post MASEMOLA RETURNS BEFORE PARLIAMENT AD HOC COMMITTEE | CARTEL CLAIMS EXPLODE appeared first on MDNtv.
]]>The post “You Stick With Your Brother Through Thick And Thin”-Ngizwe Mchunu appeared first on MDNtv.
]]>A prayer service for the embattled Police Minister Senzo Mchunu was held in Greyville Racecourse in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal(KZN) on Saturday.
The service was held in support of Mchunu, who has been on special leave since July, last year.
His leave emanates from allegations of interference in police activities and collusion with criminal elements.
The claims were made by the KZN police Commissioner Leuitenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that resulted in the establishment of a judicial commission to probe them.

Mchunu is alleged to have authprized the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in December 2024 without followign proper procedures.
Supporters and independent faith groups gathered to pray for his “deliverance” and strength during a period of intense scrutiny and political pressure.
This followed a similar gathering in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, in February 2026 which was hailed as a success by organizer Sipho Nathi Mafuyela.
Another prayer was previously held at Mchunu’s home in eMpangeni, KZN.
Organizers state the prayers are meant to support Mchunu, who is “embattled” and on special leave, amid claims that the allegations against him are unfounded.
Spokesperson Sithembiso Mshengu confirmed that while Mchunu is aware of the services, they are not officially sanctioned by him but are conducted independently.
At the center of a probe by the Madlanga Commission and a Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee is the allegations that he unilaterally disbanded the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in December 2024.
The situation led to intense political scrutiny, including calls from opposition parties for his dismissal and accusations of potential criminal implications.
The prayers have sparked mixed reactions, with some supporters rallying behind him while others argue that the focus should be on accountability and the truth.
Speaking to the attendees, controversial Podcast And Chill Network Co-Presenter Ngizwe Mchunu said he will never turn his back agaunst his own.
“I recieved a call informing me that there was a prayer for one of our own Senzo Mchunu about the problems he is facing. Pretenders will forever be there even in the bible they were there before us. This is a fight against the Zulu nation. If you wajt to fight Zulu’s , you have to divide them. Whether you are a Christian or not, you have to take this message, the day of Sabaath means life so when Sabaath is no longer bringing life than I don’t know what does it mean.
“I don’t know him to be scandalous, I’m here to speak about my brother Senzo. To speak about what I know about him, if you have a problem with you must you must “voetsek”. I’m here to tell the history of Senzo Mchunu. He was the head of the province and there was never a time where there were scandalous stories about him. In 2004 the ANC ruled the province under his organusation,” he said.
Mchunu further said: “I’m not here to campaign for him. For the ANC to rule the province , for Jacob Zuma (former South African President) to win the Polokwane Conference, it was Senzo Mchunu who had the numbers. It was Senzo Mchunu who played the huge role for Zuma to become the President. Enemy is a very important item on earth. I don’t care who says what, but I want to tell you that there is no dustin for a human being. You stick with your brother through thick and thin. That is a power of life , that is a power of wisdom, that is a power of family,” he said.
Sakhile Shezi, the founder of Prayer For Senzo Mchunu.said that he had a vision that he must form a group to start a prayer line for Mchunu.
“It just a vision that came to me that I must start a prayer line. It then happened dawned on me that we must pray for Senzo Mchunu and his family. We have to respect and applaud President Cyril Ramaphosa for establishing the Ad hoc Committee and the Madlanga Committee, we will have to respect the outcomes of both Madlanga and Adhoc Committee,” he said while explaining how the prayer line was formed.

]]>
A prayer service for the embattled Police Minister Senzo Mchunu is underway in Durban in KwaZulu Natal (KZN).
The service is held in support of Mchunu who has been on special leave since July last year.

This is the third prayer for the embattled suspended Police Minister who was put on ice after he authorised the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in December 31, 2024.

Before the Mpumalanga event, Mchunu’s spokesperson, Sithembiso Mshengu, said the minister was not involved in the logistical arrangements or funding of the prayer and would not attend.
“They did engage him on their initiative, and he felt there was nothing untoward, especially when faith groups hold such a prayer in his name as they may do with anyone in the republic or beyond,” he said.
The prayer comes as Mchunu faces mounting scrutiny.
KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has accused Mchunu of wrongfully disbanding the SAPS political killings task team (PKTT).

Mchunu admitted to disbanding the PKTT, allegedly with the president’s approval, but acknowledged he did so without consulting national police commissioner Gen Fannie Masemola.
Evidence before the Madlanga commission has suggested the unit may have been shut down to benefit criminal syndicates that infiltrated the police.

Mchunu has also been accused of being associated with alleged criminal cartel kingpin Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala.
While several witnesses have implicated Mchunu in alleged wrongdoing before the commission, the Presidency has confirmed he was not implicated in the commission’s interim report.

The report has not yet been made public due to its interim status. A final report is expected to be released once proceedings conclude.

Carrim’s application has sparked a major controversy ahead of his scheduled testimony before the Commission.
His legal team argues that appearing in a public hearing could place his life at risk. They maintain that Carrim and his family have been subjected to threats, forcing him to spend significant amounts of money on private security.

However, the Commission has disputed claims that Carrim was left without protection.
During proceedings, evidence leader Advocate Adila Hassim told the Commission that Carrim had previously been offered protection services but declined them.
Hassim raised the issue in response to Carrim’s claim that he has had to cover the costs of private security himself due to safety concerns.
Carrim’s lawyer, Advocate Kameel Premhid, argued that the request for in-camera proceedings is based on ongoing threats against Carrim and his family. According to Premhid, these threats include warnings that Carrim’s businesses could be burned down and that his family could be tracked even if they relocate.
The legal team told the Commission that the threats have created a serious risk to Carrim’s safety should his testimony take place in a public hearing.
Carrim is not new to controversy and has been linked to several allegations connected to a cancelled R360 million South African Police Service (SAPS) tender.
He is accused of receiving R1.5 million from controversial businessman Vusimuzi Matlala, who has been linked to the tender scandal.
Carrim has also been associated with suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, with reports of WhatsApp messages exchanged between Mchunu, Matlala and Carrim emerging during the course of investigations.
Carrim’s legal team had previously challenged the subpoena issued by the Commission in court but lost the case. They later secured a postponement of his appearance from an earlier date to 9 and 10 March, citing the need for additional preparation time.
On Friday, Carrim’s lawyers filed an interlocutory application requesting that his testimony be heard privately.
During the hearing, Commission chairperson Justice Mbuyiseni Madlanga expressed concern about the wording used in Carrim’s affidavit. Madlanga said the language appeared to suggest that the Commission had been responsible for the deaths of witnesses.
The Commissioner described this suggestion as serious and inappropriate, especially given the sensitive context of previous witness deaths linked to investigations, including Witness D and Wiandre Pretorius.
Madlanga also noted that previous applications for in-camera testimony had been dealt with openly and questioned what made Carrim’s situation different enough to justify secrecy.
He indicated that the Commission would need to carefully consider whether the application meets the legal threshold for private proceedings.
Evidence leader Sesi Baloyi also opposed Carrim’s request, arguing that he had not provided sufficient grounds to justify testifying behind closed doors.
Baloyi further argued that keeping the alleged threats confidential could prevent full public disclosure and undermine transparency in the Commission’s work.
She added that the application may have already been compromised by information that has entered the public domain.
The Commission is expected to release its written ruling on Monday, which will determine whether Carrim will testify in a public hearing or behind closed doors when he appears before the Madlanga Commission.
