United States Embassy in Saudi Arabia capital Riyadh was hit by Iranian drones. Saudi Defence Ministry says fire broke out at the embassy, but the diplomatic compound sustained only ‘minor’ damage.

The United States Embassy in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, was hit by two drones and a “limited fire” broke out at the diplomatic compound, the Saudi Ministry of Defence has said.

The strike on the US Embassy early on Tuesday also caused “minor material damage” to the compound, the Defence Ministry said in a statement, while there were reports later that more drones were targeting the site amid Iran’s retaliation across the Gulf to US-Israeli attacks.

The United States Embassy in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, was hit by two drones and a “limited fire” broke out at the diplomatic compound, the Saudi Ministry of Defence has said.

The strike on the US Embassy early on Tuesday also caused “minor material damage” to the compound, the Defence Ministry said.

According to Al Jazzera, while there were reports later that more drones were targeting the site amid Iran’s retaliation across the Gulf to US-Israeli attacks.

US President Donald Trump told the NewsNation media outlet that the US response to the embassy attack and the killing of four American service members would soon be made clear.

Trump Tweeted:“You’ll find out soon.” This was a clear threat again directed to Iran which had been bombing all Muslim countries that are said to allies with US and Israel.

Black smoke was seen rising over Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter, which houses foreign missions, after the attack, the Reuters news agency reports.

Three people told Reuters that a loud blast was heard and flames were seen at the embassy, though the Saudi Defence Ministry and one of the sources told the news agency that the fire in the aftermath of the drone attack was small in scale.

The embassy building was empty at the time of the attack, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters, and there were no reports of casualties.

A source close to the Saudi military, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the AFP news agency that air defences had intercepted four drones targeting Riyadh’s diplomatic quarter in the attack.

Al Jazeera’s Mike Hanna, reporting from Washington, DC, said the US president’s behaviour providing only snippets of commentary to individual news organisations, as in the case of the embassy attack was “unprecedented” at a time when the country was engaged in a major conflict.

Iran has launched a wave of missile attacks amid rapidly escalating tensions in the Middle East, targeting Israel and heightening fears of a wider regional conflict.

According to regional defence sources, Iran fired hundreds of missiles toward Israel. Israeli authorities said a significant number of the incoming projectiles were intercepted by the country’s Iron Dome defence system. However, at least one missile reportedly penetrated air defences, causing severe structural damage to a residential building.

Iran’s actions come during a period of intense regional instability. Claims circulating on social media allege that Iran also targeted several neighbouring countries, including Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, Cyprus, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. However, there has been no independent confirmation from those governments verifying direct large scale strikes on their territories.

There have also been widespread but unverified reports regarding the status of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. At this stage, there is no official confirmation from credible international agencies confirming his death. Authorities in Tehran have not released clear, independently verified information confirming such claims.

Security analysts warn that misinformation can spread rapidly during periods of armed conflict. Governments across the region remain on high alert as diplomatic channels work to prevent further escalation.

Israel has stated that it will continue to defend its territory against missile attacks, while international leaders are urging restraint to avoid a broader regional war.

This remains a developing situation. Updates will follow as verified information becomes available.

Somalia has entered into a military cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia, marking another step in Mogadishu’s efforts to bolster alliances in the face of escalating tensions in the Horn of Africa.

The memorandum was signed by Somalia’s Defense Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi and Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz during a meeting in Riyadh. The pact is designed to enhance defense and military collaboration, covering shared interests that align with both nations’ strategic goals.

Details of the agreement remain limited, but it follows a similar defense accord Somalia reached with Qatar last month, which emphasized military training, knowledge sharing, capability building, and regional security enhancements.

These diplomatic moves come against the backdrop of increased regional friction, particularly after Israel’s unprecedented recognition of Somaliland’s independence. Somali officials have expressed concerns over potential Israeli military presence in the breakaway region, viewing it as a threat to stability and vowing to oppose any such developments.

Somalia has stated it will not permit foreign bases that could endanger its sovereignty or neighboring countries, promising to defend against perceived intrusions.

In related developments, Somalia recently terminated all pacts with the United Arab Emirates, accusing the Gulf nation of actions that compromise its unity and independence. This decision aligns with reports of UAE involvement in facilitating Israel’s engagement with Somaliland.

The UAE, which has maintained significant economic and security links in the area, including port operations, has faced criticism amid broader regional disputes, including tensions with Saudi Arabia over issues in Yemen and Sudan.

Saudi Arabia has condemned foreign meddling in Sudan, highlighting the influx of weapons and fighters prolonging conflict there, without specifying involved parties.

These alliances underscore Somalia’s push for stronger partnerships to safeguard its interests amid complex geopolitical dynamics in the region.

A new U.S. Senate report has revealed that the Trump administration has significantly reduced efforts to counter foreign influence campaigns, even as interference from Saudi Arabia and other nations becomes more advanced and widespread.

The report, compiled by Democratic staff on the Senate subcommittee on investigations, focuses on the proposed Saudi-backed takeover of the PGA Tour by LIV Golf—a deal strongly supported by Donald Trump. Critics say the deal would hand Saudi Arabia substantial control over American sports.

Central to the investigation is Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which funds LIV Golf and has expanded its U.S. holdings from $2.3 billion in 2019 to nearly $27 billion by the end of 2024. However, the report warns that the real scope of Saudi investments may be far greater due to unreported private deals.

Thousands Wait at Ukraine Border After Polish Truckers Blockade It

Senator Richard Blumenthal criticized the lack of transparency and cooperation from the Saudi government, saying it repeatedly obstructed the Senate’s probe. The PIF refused to allow its governor, Yasir al-Rumayyan, to testify and discouraged its U.S.-based consultants from complying with subpoenas.

Four major consulting firms — Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey & Company, M Klein & Company, and Teneo — declined to provide requested information, citing fear of penalties under Saudi law.

Blumenthal expressed concern over recent decisions by Attorney General Pam Bondi, including her move to weaken enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) and the dissolution of the FBI’s foreign influence taskforce. FARA disclosures have dropped significantly this year.
