The song marks a subtle but deliberate shift in his sound, blending his familiar emotional depth with a more rhythmic and expressive energy.

At its core, Samba tells the story of love complicated by misunderstanding. It captures the tension of knowing how you feel about someone, but struggling to express it in a way they fully understand.

“Samba is about trying to love someone in your own way, even when it’s not always received like that,” Ben explains. “It’s about intention, effort, and the vulnerability that comes with putting your feelings out there.”

Musically, the track sits between contemporary R&B and Afro-inspired rhythms, driven by an upbeat, percussive samba influence. While the production is energetic and playful, the emotional message remains central.

Ben says the creative process began with the feeling of the beat rather than lyrics.

“The process started with the feeling of the beat,” he says. “Once that energy was there, everything else followed. It was about letting the song take shape on its own.”

The track also includes elements of vernacular language, adding identity and authenticity to the song. Ben admits writing in his mother tongue challenged him creatively.

“Having to write in my mother tongue was a bit of a challenge too but I got it right after a few attempts,” he says.

Hailing from the Vaal, Ben September continues to establish himself among a new generation of artists pushing the boundaries of Afro-influenced R&B.

With Samba, he offers more than a standalone single. The track also serves as a preview of his upcoming EP and signals a wider creative direction built on rhythm, honesty and storytelling.
