Ntuli called the latest criticism labeling it as unfair attacks and unjustified and misdirected.

In a virtual interview on SABC News, ANC Chief Whip Mdumiseni Ntuli defended National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza against criticism for declining to issue subpoenas for forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan and businessman Brown Mogotsi to appear before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee.

Ntuli described the attacks on Didiza as unjustified and misdirected, insisting she is ensuring proper procedure is followed.

Ntuli, a member of the committee probing misconduct and infiltration in the criminal justice system, said Didiza wants decisions safeguarded from court challenges.

He explained that the committee must address security concerns raised by O’Sullivan (currently in the UK with death threats) and Mogotsi (demanding funded protection) before forcing in-person appearances.

O’Sullivan left the country with his seven kids.

He rejected claims of undue delay, noting correspondence with the Speaker began late last year, with responses from O’Sullivan in December and January.

Ntuli stressed unanimity on holding O’Sullivan accountable for alleged contempt toward Parliament, while warning that bypassing process could embarrass the committee legally.

The ANC maintains Didiza’s guidance protects the inquiry’s integrity.

The committee continues its work toward the mid-February deadline, with Ntuli calling for responsibility rather than shifting blame to the Speaker.

Two high-profile recusal applications are currently before the Commission, brought by former Presidents Jacob Zuma and Thabo Mbeki, raising fresh tension over the future of its work.

Former President Zuma submitted his application on 15 December 2025, followed days later by former President Mbeki and four former Cabinet ministers. The Commission heard arguments on both applications on 16 January 2026.

The applications are strongly opposed by the Calata Group, which represents 25 families and survivors of people who were forcibly disappeared or murdered during the struggle against apartheid. The evidence leaders appointed to the Commission have also rejected the recusal bids, arguing that they lack merit.

The Commission itself was established in May 2025 to investigate whether attempts were made to obstruct investigations or prosecutions linked to Truth and Reconciliation Commission cases. Although it was originally expected to complete its work within six months, delays and logistical challenges led to an extension of its mandate until July 2026.

The timing of the recusal applications has raised concern. They were filed only during the extended period, not during the Commission’s initial months of operation. If successful, the applications would effectively halt the Commission’s work until a new chairperson is appointed, making it highly unlikely that the inquiry could finish its mandate within the remaining time.

Former President Zuma’s application is sharply worded and includes accusations and statements the Commission has described as inappropriate and unsupported by evidence. He argues that the chairperson should step aside due to both actual bias and a reasonable apprehension of bias.

Former President Mbeki’s application, while more measured in tone, also claims that there is a reasonable perception of bias and questions the chairperson’s continued role.

Both former Presidents rely on similar arguments, pointing to the chairperson’s past roles within the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the National Prosecuting Authority. Because of this overlap, the Commission has elected to consider the applications together and issue a single ruling.

As the Commission works against the clock, the outcome of these applications could determine whether it completes its task or faces further delays in addressing one of the most sensitive legacies of South Africa’s past.

A company linked to Thabiso Mashatile, son of Deputy President Paul Mashatile, has been removed from the Central Supplier Database (CSD), effectively banning it from doing business with the government.

Modipadi Nokaneng recently renamed 0711 Stuttgart was struck off the database following reports linking it to suspicious government contracts. While the Health Minister’s parliamentary response did not spell out the precise reasons, removals from the CSD typically relate to fraud, misrepresentation, or non-performance

The company previously came under scrutiny after benefiting from a Gauteng health contract that escalated from R49 million to over R91 million, alongside the Ngwato and Manzi Group.

Further concerns include a R3 million SARS VAT bill tied to government tenders and unresolved labour disputes involving unpaid settlements of about R219,000 to retrenched workers.

Investigations also revealed overlapping operations between Modipadi Nokaneng and related entities, including shared office space and staff. The company is directed by Taletjo Mahlakoana, a known business associate of Thabiso Mashatile and his stepbrother, Tinyiko Mvelase.

Rejects Deputy President Paul Mashatile attempt to avoid accountability for mounting Japan’s travel expenses.

Mashatile’s emanetes from the responses he gave parliamentary which wanted detailes about his Japan working visit, which took place from 16 to 19 March 2025.

Mashatile stated to parliament that during his trip to Japan he was accompanied by a high-level delegation including Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Thandi Moraka, Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie, Minister of Higher Education Dr Nobuhle Nkabane, Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen, Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Parks Tau, and Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Nomalungelo Gina.

Now in a twist of events ActionSA Parliamentary Chief Whip Matthew Goerge said his organization is baffled by Mashatile’s latest attempt to evade accountability for his international and domestic travel expenses.

George claims that Mashatile has tried to sidestep scrutiny by deflecting the question to DIRCO.

“This sly bureaucratic manoeuvre has rightly been rejected by Parliament. We also refuses to accept this evasive wriggle, with the National Assembly now returning the reply and recommending that the Mashatile respond fully and directly to our question. This attempted dodge comes after we exposed the Deputy President’s shocking R2.3 million trip to Japan, as well as the GNU’s nearly R300 million in combined travel expenses since taking office on our GNU Tracker,” he said.

George said that Action SA have introduced the Enhanced Cut Cabinet Perks Bill designed to rein in the extravagant perks enjoyed by Ministers.

“It is precisely this culture of entitlement and evasiveness that ActionSA seeks to end. That is why we have introduced the Enhanced Cut Cabinet Perks Bill. Addition, our Constitutional Amendment Bill proposes the complete abolition of all 32 Deputy Minister positions as outdated and wasteful layer of government that South Africa simply cannot afford.

“We will not allow the political elite to hide behind bureaucracy and live in luxury while South Africans struggle. We will continue to expose waste, demand accountability and fight for an ethical government that respects the people’s money,” he said.
