Adoons was granted bail of R2,000 in July, with strict conditions. He may not interfere with the investigation or intimidate state witnesses. He must also report to his nearest police station every Friday and Sunday.

Kamogelo was allegedly kidnapped after school in June by men who impersonated police officers. After the learner was picked up by a driver working for one of his parents in a Suzuki, the alleged kidnappers followed and stopped them near Vereeniging Drive.

Daniel Malebatso, the driver, alleges he heard a siren behind them and the occupants of a white Toyota Hilux double-cab bakkie, fitted with blue “police lights”, pulled them over.

Kamogelo and Malebatso were separated, and Malebatso was told to drive ahead to the Park Road police station while they would follow with Kamogelo. The Toyota Hilux, however, vanished from sight when a truck passed between the Suzuki and the Hilux.

“The matter of Nzima Adoons has been postponed to January for further investigation,” said Free State NPA spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane. “He is facing charges of extortion, as well as kidnapping, and he is out on bail.”

Adoons was linked to the case by the tracker of the vehicle he drove on the day that Kamogelo was kidnapped. This was revealed by investigating officer Lt. Col. Kelaotswe Lebodi when he testified.

Lebodi testified in October that the vehicle tracker apparently placed him at the exact location where Kamogelo was last seen. Five other suspects were arrested in connection with the kidnapping: three at a house in Kanana, Wepener, and two others on the road between Kwetla and Wepener with the victim in their company.

Police were called to Keerom Street around midday after reports of a man walking unclothed along the sidewalk. When officers approached, the man refused to comply and cover himself. A struggle broke out, during which he overpowered one of the officers and discharged the firearm. Luckily, no one was injured.

Three officers eventually subdued the suspect and placed him under arrest. He now faces charges including robbery of a firearm, public indecency, and discharging a weapon in public. He is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court soon.

In a separate case, police arrested a couple in connection with the murder of a car guard in Bloubergstrand. CCTV footage reportedly captured the pair fleeing the scene after the victim was found stabbed to death near Marine Circle.

The man remains in custody and is facing a murder charge, while his female partner has since been released after the case against her was withdrawn. Detectives are continuing their investigation, and the matter has been postponed for further proceedings.

The young rider had joined dozens of villagers outside the station to demand justice over repeated cattle thefts in the area. Earlier, police had arrested three suspects believed to be behind the crimes and were holding them inside. But the crowd, angry and disillusioned with the justice system, insisted the suspects be released to them.

The atmosphere grew volatile. Amid shouting and pushing, a police officer opened fire. A bullet struck the rider, sending him crashing to the ground. He was rushed to North Kinangop Hospital in critical condition.

News of the shooting spread like wildfire.

Within minutes, the peaceful protest turned into a wave of outrage. Residents stormed the police station, and soon, flames began to rise from the building. Dark smoke billowed into the sky as the structure burned, while onlookers watched from a distance—some cheering, others simply stunned.

The confrontation came just hours after a government official had issued a controversial shoot-to-kill order for anyone attempting to breach police stations, citing frustrations over suspects being released and returning to mock officers.

But for many in Ndunyu, the shooting felt like another blow from a system that had already failed them.

As the charred remains of the station cooled, the air in the town remained heavy—with grief, with anger, and with a deepening mistrust between citizens and those meant to protect them.

According to the Free State Hawks Spokesperson Fikizwa Matlto the four Lesotho nationals who are in South Africa illegally were arrested by Free State multidisciplinary team led by Hawks’ Serious Organized Crime Investigation together with the North West Tactical Response Team (TRT) and the National Intervention Unit (NIU), after an intense investigation was launched to trace the suspects.

Joseph Mohoaduba, who lives in Mondeor, said his family was traumatised in March when two armed men broke into their property, robbed them at gunpoint, and drove off in his son’s vehicle filled with personal items, including music equipment. His son was later abandoned in Naturena.

Mohoaduba immediately opened a case at the Mondeor police station. However, he was stunned when he received a phone call the next day from a man identifying himself as Captain Mahube. The caller claimed to have arrested five suspects in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, and said they had been driving the stolen car and were in possession of the robbed items.

According to Mohoaduba, the caller demanded R2,000 via e-wallet for a clearance certificate and to facilitate the return of the vehicle to Johannesburg. Suspicious, Mohoaduba offered a larger sum in cash and requested a bank account for a direct deposit instead.

“He told me using a bank account would get him fired,” Mohoaduba said. “When I refused to send the money by e-wallet, he deleted our WhatsApp conversations.”

However, a file the officer had shared—including Mohoaduba’s police statement and the identity documents of an officer named LL Mahube—was automatically backed up to his device.

Mohoaduba expressed shock and concern over how an officer based in Kuruman, Northern Cape, could access case information from Johannesburg, raising fears of possible police involvement in criminal activity.

Elsewhere, police responded to a shooting in Humansdorp on Friday, resulting in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a firearm stolen in 2014. The suspects face charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and discharging a weapon in a municipal area.

On Saturday, the Colesberg Highway Patrol intercepted a stolen vehicle linked to a house robbery in Table View. Three men were arrested, and police recovered laptops, cell phones, and other valuables. The suspects, aged between 24 and 36, have been charged with possession of suspected stolen vehicles and property.

Meanwhile, police in Saldanha have opened an arson case after a fire destroyed a home in Middelpos on Friday.

They were last seen in Gauteng during the early hours of Thursday, driving a Volkswagen Polo hatchback. After leaving a fuel station along the N1 highway, their tracking device and mobile phones were switched off.

At a media briefing in Bloemfontein, Thepa said, “I believe the national commissioner and his team are doing everything possible to bring them back alive. That is all I pray for. Just bring back my wife alive. Thank you.”

Paul Senoge, the father of Constable Senoge, joined the calls for assistance, suggesting that a hijacking might have taken place. He urged anyone with information to report it to the nearest police station.

A reward of R350,000 has been offered for any information that could lead to finding the missing officers or those responsible for their disappearance. Authorities emphasized their commitment to following every lead until the officers are found.

Separately, search efforts continue for Pretoria-based journalist Sibusiso Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Mdhluli, who have been missing since February 18. A reward of R50,000 has been announced for information leading to their whereabouts.
