]]>Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) arrested Kwanele Khatheni (27) for murder of Sergeant Sanele Dlamini (37) who was fatally shot at Inanda last year.
Khatheni was apprehended in his hideout place on Wednesday and appeared in Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
KZN Hawks Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo said on 8 April 2025, Sergeant Dlamini who was attached to the Presidential Protection Unit was off duty driving his private motor vehicle along Mafukuzela Road at Inanda Newtown.
“It is alleged that he stopped opposite the service station and went to the tuck shop, whilst waiting to purchase he was accosted by the accused. Sgt Dlamini managed to drew his service pistol and fired several shots towards the accused. One of the accused also shot at Sergeant Dlamini and robbed him of his service pistol. He was taken to hospital in his private motor vehicle and was declared dead on arrival,” he said.
Mhlongo said that a case of murder was reported at Inanda police station and Hawks members attended the crime scene.
“Information was received that one of the accused was taken to the local clinic and police proceeded to the clinic where he was placed under arrest. He was introduced as Ntuthuko Nzama aged 27. Nzama appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate Court few days after the incident and was remanded in custody since then.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that Nzama was taken to hospital by Khatheni who introduced himself as Siphon, hence he was arrested on Wednesday. He briefly appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court today and was remanded in custody,” said Mhlongo.
Mhlongo said the case was postponed to 20 March 2026 for formal bail application and Nzama will re-appear in the same court on 18 March 2026 for trial.

According to SAPS Mpumalanga, an investigation into the orchestrated hit that cut short the life of 43-year-old , is nearing an end as one accused was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment in a judgment handed down by the Mpumalanga High Court sitting in Middelburg.
The reports suggest that Kutu was coming back from deployment when he met his untimely death.
It was established through the investigation that upon his arrival at home in Vosman, Emalahleni, his wife was not at home. The deceased’s wife, Patricia Kutu, later arrived and parked the vehicle in the garage.
She allegedly entered the house with two suspects who opened fire. Kutu succumbed to his wounds shortly thereafter in hospital.
The docket was handed over to the Hawks Middelburg-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit.
The investigation led to the arrest of two accused linked to the gruesome murder, and two service firearms, a handgun and a rifle, were recovered.
An intense investigation further led to the arrest of Sgt Kutu’s wife, as the trio conspired to commit murder.
Since the accused were arrested, they were denied bail. Kutu’s wife appealed and was later released on R10 000.00 bail.
The matter was set to proceed on 09 February 2026, but was postponed to 11 February 2026, due to legal representation challenges.
On 11 February 2026, Xolani Ndabezitha (29) pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment.
One of his co-accused, Bonginkosi Langa, also indicated his intention to plead guilty. Langa’s matter was postponed to 18 February 2026.
The deceased’s wife is expected to appear before court on 17 January 2028.

According to the Mpumalanga Hawks Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Màgonseni Nkosi the police official was gunned down during a business robbery in the local salon where money and cellphones were robbed under gunpoint.
A 29 year old Constable Khulani Chabangu that was stationed at Volkrust SAPS was robbed of his clothes and vehicle before he was fatally shot on his upper body.
Nelspruit based Serious Organised Crime Investigation was tasked to investigate and bring the perpetrators before court. It was a busy week for the team that comprised of the Hawks, National Crime Intelligence, and Calcutta Task Team.
Information was received that linked the suspects. The team managed to corner a 25 year old suspect in one of the streets in Culcatta on Friday, 06 June 2025, at about 16:30. He was found in possession of two cellphones. It is alleged that one of the cellphones was robbed during the robbery and murder of the police official.
Further investigation was conducted that led the team to the suspect’s friend’s house. On seeing the police, the suspect’s friend who managed to evade arrest and vanished within the residential area. A search was conducted in the house whereby a handgun with serial numbers filled out and four live ammunition rounds were found.
The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Nico Gerber commended the team for the major breakthrough. “Our members will not rest until all those behind the murder of our fallen hero are brought to book. We strongly believe that justice will be served for the family, community, and the South African Police Service,” concluded the General.
He is expected to appear before court on Monday 9 June 2025.
