]]>Emergency services responded to the scene after the collision on the P277/1 road near Sibasa.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday on the P277/1 road in Sibasa, Limpopo. Authorities say the impact was severe, leaving two occupants of the sedan dead at the scene.
Five other people escaped with minor injuries, including three passengers who were travelling in the Polo and two occupants of the bakery truck. The truck driver was among those injured.
According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, emergency services and other stakeholders responded swiftly to the incident. The road was temporarily closed while rescue operations and investigations were conducted.
Traffic has since resumed after the scene was cleared.
“The Department appreciates the swift response and contribution of all stakeholders who assisted during the incident,” the department said.
The department used the tragedy to remind motorists of the importance of responsible driving. Officials urged road users to obey traffic laws, avoid reckless and negligent behaviour, and prioritise safety at all times.
Head-on collisions remain among the deadliest types of road accidents, often resulting in catastrophic injuries and fatalities because of the force of impact.
Police investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
