Operation Dudula Movement President Zandile Dabula has announced her resignation from both her leadership position and membership of the organisation, effective from Thursday, 14 May 2026.

On Thursday, Dabula held a media briefing at the Regus Office Space in Parktown, Johannesburg, where she ended the ongoing rumours about her departure from the organisation. In a resignation letter addressed to members and leadership of the organisation, Dabula said the decision followed “a long period of introspection” regarding the future direction of the movement and her role within it.

Dabula reflected on the organisation’s transition from a civic movement into a political party, saying some leaders believed the move may have happened earlier than necessary.

She stated that Operation Dudula had built significant influence through activism, advocacy, and community mobilisation, but acknowledged that her vision for the future of the movement now differs from the political direction currently being pursued by the organisation.

Dabula also cited differing views on leadership structure and strategy within the organisation as part of the reasons behind her resignation.

“My conscience will not allow me to continue asking supporters to make further sacrifices when I personally believe that my contribution moving forward would be more meaningful outside of the current political structure,” she wrote.

Despite stepping down, Dabula said she remains committed to issues including immigration, community safety, accountability, lawfulness, economic inclusion, and the dignity of South Africans.

“I will continue engaging on these matters through civic and community-based initiatives. I would like to thank members, volunteers, supporters, and leaders of the movement for their commitment and support over the years and wish the organisation success going forward,” she said.
