The Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court will decide whether Walter Tshehlo, accused of murdering 21-year-old North-West University student Onalenna Selebogo, will be granted bail.

Case Background:

Selebogo, a third-year education student, was found murdered on 3 August in a Rustenburg flat.

Her body was discovered wrapped in bedsheets with multiple stab wounds to the neck.

Tshehlo handed himself over to police and now awaits his bail verdict.

Condemnation of GBV:

The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities has condemned the killing, calling it an “appalling reminder” of South Africa’s ongoing struggle with gender-based violence (GBV).

President Cyril Ramaphosa urged communities to teach boys respect and consent, and to build a society that protects women.

This case has sparked renewed calls for justice, accountability, and action against GBVF.
