NICASA President Frank Onyekwelu voiced the group’s concerns, stating that no official explanation has been provided regarding Dr. Idika’s passing. Until his death, Idika served as Deputy Director and Medical Manager at the hospital.

Onyekwelu revealed that Idika had faced a prolonged period of alleged bullying, intimidation, and mistreatment from the hospital’s management. He was reportedly evicted from his government-provided residence by the hospital’s Acting CEO, who claimed Idika had overstayed his welcome—despite his position entitling him to the accommodation without a time limit.
As a result of the eviction, Idika was left without a home and was sometimes forced to sleep in his car while searching for alternative housing, a situation that reportedly caused him significant emotional distress.
NICASA is demanding a transparent and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, insisting that justice must be served. Onyekwelu condemned the ongoing silence on the case and called on the Nigerian and South African authorities to ensure accountability.
In a separate statement, the Public Servants Association (PSA) alleged that Dr. Idika had endured years of victimisation, unfair disciplinary actions, and abuse by some members of the hospital’s management.
“An injustice to one is an injustice to all. May his soul rest in peace,” Onyekwelu added.
