Environmental Health Practitioner Mr. MJ Kotjane from the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality conducted a compliance and enforcement inspection at Musa Tuck Shop to check adherence to food safety legislation, regulations, and municipal bylaws.

During the inspection, officials found poor hygienic conditions at the premises. Food items were improperly labelled, and overstocking and overcrowding had led to damage and spoilage of stock. Inspectors also noted visible pest infestation and discovered expired and rotten food items, including tomatoes and cabbage, on sale.

Following the findings, the Environmental Health Practitioner issued the shop owner a prohibition order. The order requires the issues to be addressed immediately, and the shop is not permitted to operate until it meets the required compliance standards.

The municipality says inspections will continue across the district to ensure that spaza shops and food outlets comply with health and safety regulations.

Residents are urged to report any concerns about food safety to their local municipality.
