Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) arrested Kwanele Khatheni (27) for murder of Sergeant Sanele Dlamini (37) who was fatally shot at Inanda last year.

Khatheni was apprehended in his hideout place on Wednesday and appeared in Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

KZN Hawks Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo said on 8 April 2025, Sergeant Dlamini who was attached to the Presidential Protection Unit was off duty driving his private motor vehicle along Mafukuzela Road at Inanda Newtown.

“It is alleged that he stopped opposite the service station and went to the tuck shop, whilst waiting to purchase he was accosted by the accused. Sgt Dlamini managed to drew his service pistol and fired several shots towards the accused. One of the accused also shot at Sergeant Dlamini and robbed him of his service pistol. He was taken to hospital in his private motor vehicle and was declared dead on arrival,” he said.

Mhlongo said that a case of murder was reported at Inanda police station and Hawks members attended the crime scene.

“Information was received that one of the accused was taken to the local clinic and police proceeded to the clinic where he was placed under arrest. He was introduced as Ntuthuko Nzama aged 27. Nzama appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate Court few days after the incident and was remanded in custody since then.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Nzama was taken to hospital by Khatheni who introduced himself as Siphon, hence he was arrested on Wednesday. He briefly appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court today and was remanded in custody,” said Mhlongo.

Mhlongo said the case was postponed to 20 March 2026 for formal bail application and Nzama will re-appear in the same court on 18 March 2026 for trial.

Western Cape police are investigating three counts of murder following a shooting incident at a taxi rank in Delft on Thursday morning.

According to police reports, approximately 06:15, police responded to a complaint of a shooting at the taxi rank on Delft Main Road, Voorbrug.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the bodies of two men, aged 55 and 58, who had sustained gunshot wounds.

Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

A third victim, aged 38, was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate that a Toyota Quantum stopped at the taxi rank and shots were fired from inside the vehicle. The suspects thereafter fled the scene.

Detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit have taken over the investigation and are probing three counts of murder. The motive for the attack is believed to be possibly related to the taxi industry.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is kindly requested to contact CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or alternatively make use of the MySAPSApp. All information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.

The Nelspruit Magistrates’ Court in Mpumalanga has denied bail to one of the accused in the murder case of 19-year-old Lusanda Mathabela.

Katlego Mokoena (19) is charged alongside with his co-accused, Lungelo Sithole (19), in connection with the murder of Mathabela, who was allegedly stabbed multiple times at her home in Mataffin, outside Mbombela, in November 2025.

Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Spokesperson Monica Nyuswa said Sithole and Mokoena applied for bail on separate occasions.

Sithole’s bail application was dismissed by the same court last month.

“It is alleged that on the day of the incident, the accused hired an Uber driver to transport them to the victim’s residence, where they allegedly gained entry by jumping over the wall. The accused were allegedly found at the crime scene, and the victim’s lifeless body was discovered in a pool of blood in the bathroom,” she said.

Nyuswa said in handing down the judgment, the court considered the serious nature of the charge and the significant public interest generated within the community where the crime was committed.

“The court found that releasing the accused on bail pending trial would likely disturb public order and undermine peace and security. It further concluded that granting bail would undermine confidence in the criminal justice system and the proper administration of justice,” she said.

According to information shared with Jozi FM News, Sekano was in Chiawelo on Friday night visiting a friend.

His friend says they were seated inside a vehicle outside his yard when two unknown males walked past them.

The deceased reportedly expressed concern, saying he hoped the two men were not going to cause trouble.

The friend further explained that after walking a few metres away, the two suspects turned back and allegedly produced firearms.

He says they ran from the vehicle, and moments later he could no longer see Thabo.

He then sought assistance. When they arrived at the scene outside his home, the vehicle was gone and Sekano was nowhere to be found.

It was later confirmed that Thabo Sekano had been murdered. His body was discovered near an informal settlement in Lenasia South.

The family and the deceased’s friend are appealing to anyone with information regarding the hijacking and murder to come forward.

Police have opened cases of murder and car hijacking, and investigations are underway.

Anyone with information is urged to contact their nearest police station or call the Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111.

Police in Atlantis, near Cape Town, are digging into a heartbreaking shooting that happened at a high school on Palmer Avenue in Avondale. It all went down just before 3pm on Wednesday when an unknown guy walked up to a taxi that was parked there, waiting to pick up students.

He started shooting, hitting the driver, another guy in the taxi, and sadly, two kids too. The driver and the other man didn’t make it, and now cops are treating this as two murders and two attempted murders.

One of the kids, a 14-year-old girl, got shot in the back and was rushed to the hospital. The other, a 16-year-old, was just grazed by a bullet but still needed medical help.

Word is, this might be tied to some beef over taxi routes in the area.

E-hailing company Bolt has disclosed that 22-year-old Nigerian national Isaac Satlat was using a shared driver profile, something that is against the company policy.

Satlat was tragically killed in an incident that was captured on dashcam where he was seen being assaulted, robbed and strangled to death.

Four people have been arrested in connection with his murder and they have appeared in Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court where they are waiting to apply for bail.

Bolt further confirmed it was cooperating with the South African Police Service and supporting the investigation after suspects linked to the crime were apprehended.

“Following an internal investigation, we confirm that Satlat was not the registered owner of the driver profile active at the time of the incident. The account belonged to Wiseman Makobe, a registered driver who had completed the required verification process before Satlat operated using the profile, constituting prohibited profile sharing.

“The profile has been permanently hard-blocked and banned from the platform. Profile sharing violates our agreements, undermines passenger trust and compromises safety. Safeguards include mandatory identity verification, regular in-app selfie checks, device monitoring, data-led risk detection systems, and immediate suspensions or permanent bans for violations,” the statement reads.

Bolt confirmed that compensation policies apply only when drivers operate lawfully under their own verified profiles.

“In cases involving impersonation or profile sharing, protections do not apply. Bolt remains committed to regulatory compliance in South Africa and will continue strengthening safety and accountability measures,” it reads.

This comes after Acting IPID National Head of Investigations Thuso Keefelakae confirmed that probes into Mkhwanazi and other members are complete with disciplinary recommendations submitted to both departments on February 4,

Mkhwanazi and other officials could soon face prosecution for truck hijacking, murder, and misuse of state property.

Suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi, along with other EMPD and SAPS officials, could soon face criminal prosecution following testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. 2026.

While appearing at the Madlanga Commission, Keefelakae explained that the same case dockets were referred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for a decision on prosecution.

He highlighted that the investigations were prosecutor-guided, providing step-by-step oversight to address evidentiary gaps, including a “missing link” that strengthened the case.

The prosecution decision on at least one matter, related to the killing of a person referred to as “Kaplan”, is expected before the end of February.

Broader allegations aired at the commission include leading a rogue EMPD unit, involvement in corruption linked to irregular deals with private security firms, abuse of blue-light privileges, extortion, kidnapping, and alleged murder cover-ups.

Keefelakae expressed frustration over EMPD’s “lack of appetite” to implement disciplinary recommendations, noting that he personally signed off on the report due to the strength of the evidence.

Mkhwanazi has denied many of the allegations in prior testimony and remains suspended as IPID’s findings await the NPA’s prosecution decision.

The Madlanga Commission continues today.

A chilling admission has emerged from the Madlanga Commission, where a key witness revealed that the assassination of former ANC Youth League secretary Sindiso Magaqa could have been stopped.

Known as Witness E, the man told the commission that he was warned in advance about the plot to kill Magaqa. According to his testimony, the gunmen themselves informed him that they had been hired to carry out the murder, insisting the information came directly from them and was not based on rumours.

Despite receiving this warning, Witness E failed to take action. Under questioning, he could not clearly explain why no steps were taken to prevent the attack.

Witness E described himself as an experienced intelligence operative, claiming a flawless track record in infiltrating drug cartels, stock-theft syndicates and cash-in-transit gangs. He told the commission that suspects he previously identified were either imprisoned or killed.

Magaqa, who was 35 years old, was shot alongside two fellow councillors on 13 July 2017. The attack happened outside a general dealer following a council meeting in southern KwaZulu-Natal. He later died on 4 September 2017 from complications related to the shooting.

In July 2025, one of the hitmen linked to the murder was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Commission chair Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga pressed Witness E on the serious failure to act, questioning how such detailed intelligence could be ignored. When asked whether the gunmen had also named those who helped plan the killing, Witness E confirmed they had, claiming the alleged masterminds were his superiors.

However, he refused to reveal any names, citing safety concerns and operational limitations.

The witness ultimately agreed that the murder could have been prevented if action had been taken between the warning and the shooting.

His testimony comes amid broader scrutiny over alleged political interference in the investigation into Magaqa’s killing, an issue that continues to raise troubling questions about accountability, intelligence failures and justice.

A routine drive home turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when an Eskom employee was shot and killed in front of his wife in Mpumalanga.

The couple, who both worked for Eskom, were travelling together when their vehicle came under fire at a T-junction near Kriel on Wednesday afternoon. The man, who was driving, died at the scene. His wife was also shot and was rushed to hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Emergency responders arrived to find their silver bakkie riddled with bullet holes, a grim reminder of the violence that unfolded moments earlier. Paramedics worked at the scene while police began their investigation.

Authorities have opened a case of murder and attempted murder. At this stage, no arrests have been made and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Eskom has expressed deep sadness over the incident, confirming that both victims were employees from Kriel Power Station. The utility said it is working closely with police and providing support to the affected family and colleagues.

The power utility also urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations are ongoing, stressing the importance of allowing law enforcement to do their work.

The incident has left the local community and Eskom staff shaken, as another family is torn apart by violent crime.
