By making crude assumptions about Dlamini’s personal life and insinuating that her relationship struggles are linked to an alleged hygiene issue, MacG fuels harmful stereotypes and contributes to the shaming of women.

Letsike believes that such remarks are toxic and reinforce negative narratives.

She is calling for Parliament to hold MacG accountable for his words, urging that he explain himself and highlighting the need for greater responsibility in how women are portrayed in the media.

Parliament to summon MacG after comments on Minnie Dlamini

Deputy Minister for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, has strongly condemned podcaster MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho for making derogatory remarks about media personality Minnie Dlamini on his Podcast and Chill show.

The comments, which included speculative claims about Dlamini’s past relationships and offensive insinuations regarding her personal hygiene, were denounced by Letsike as “repugnant” and a form of “online gender-based violence” (GBV).

In a statement released by the Department of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, Letsike asserted that MacG’s remarks infringed upon Dlamini’s constitutional rights to equality, dignity, and personal security. “Such statements are not only degrading but also contribute to a culture of disrespect and abuse against women,” she said, stressing the urgent need to tackle online GBV.

The deputy minister announced that MacG would be summoned to appear before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities to explain his conduct.

Noncompliance could lead to a fine or imprisonment of up to 12 months. Meanwhile, legal experts are reportedly considering laying a charge of crimen injuria against the podcaster.
