]]>This announcement means no supporters will be sent by the department to support Bafana during the FIFA World Cup in Mexico, Canada and US in June.
The news caught Mama Joy by surprise, and she was left cursing the day McKenzie was made sports minister.
“To all SA fans let’s just accept no Worldcup for us. @GaytonMcK @MinisterMcK @SportArtsCultur won’t be able to help us.
“You are at your own (sic). Let’s just pray for the President to give us a new Minister of sport that can love fans,” wrote Mama Joy.
One of the supporters, in reply, suggested that the department was reviewing its sponsorship policy.
However McKenzie denied this suggestion, saying he would not pacify angry supporters with lies.
“Why should I lie using diplomatic language. Our policy is not under review, should I mislead people by soothing them,” replied McKenzie.
“We are not going to pay for super fans as a department. It’s unfair because SA is full of super fans.”
Mama Joy also appealed to Fifa president Gianni Infantino to help South African fans to get the the World Cup.
“Thanks @FIFAcom President @GianniInfantino @BafanaBafana has qualified,” she wrote to FIFA and Infantino.
“I would like to be there. I am asking any help from any one to help me attend the World Cup 2026 @GaytonMcK won’t pay for fans especially Mamajoy.”

]]>
ActionSA Member of Parliament Dereleen James has formally opened a criminal case of intimidation against Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie at the Cape Town Central Police Station.
The move follows remarks McKenzie made during a Facebook Live broadcast, in which he referenced having “beefed up” his 24-hour security and told James in Afrikaans, “Die pad is lank” (“The road is long”).

James and ActionSA interpreted the comments made while McKenzie accused her of spreading lies as a veiled threat, leaving her feeling exposed and vulnerable because she does not have similar protection.
James, who sits on a parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee investigating alleged links between Patriotic Alliance (PA) leadership and figures connected to drug cartels—including a member of the so-called “Big Five” cartel, Katiso “KT” Molefe—said the intimidation stems directly from her oversight work. In a statement after opening the case, she declared:
“I have just laid criminal charges of intimidation against Minister Gayton McKenzie. Attempts to intimidate me will not stop me from probing every possible link to the drug cartels destroying our communities. Attacks on me as an MP carrying out my constitutional duties are unacceptable and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba condemned the alleged conduct as “thuggish” and confirmed the party had consulted its legal team. The party has also requested additional protection for James from Parliament’s Speaker.
McKenzie and the PA have strongly denied any threat was intended, describing James’s interpretation as a deliberate misrepresentation taken out of context.
In response, McKenzie has lodged a formal ethics complaint against James with Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests, accusing her of making misleading claims. PA spokesperson Steve Motale insisted McKenzie would address the matter politically, not through intimidation.
The clash has sharply escalated tensions between ActionSA and the Patriotic Alliance two parties that have occasionally found common ground on issues such as crime and immigration but now find themselves locked in a bitter public feud.
It also raises broader questions about the conduct of public representatives, the boundaries of robust political debate, and the safety of MPs performing oversight functions in a polarised environment.
Police have confirmed the case has been opened; investigations are expected to determine whether McKenzie’s remarks meet the legal threshold for intimidation. Both sides have signalled they will pursue their respective complaints vigorously.

The complaint was filed on Tuesday, shortly after James opened a criminal case of intimidation against McKenzie at Cape Town Central Police Station.
Earlier in the day, James announced on social media that she would pursue legal action, accusing McKenzie of attempting to intimidate her.
“Attempts to intimidate me will not stop me from probing every possible link to the drug cartels destroying our community. Attacks on me as an MP carrying out my constitutional duties to expose criminal capture by drug cartels in South Africa are unacceptable and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
South Africans expect me to fight for them and the daily threats I receive, including attempts by a Minister to intimidate me, will not stop me. ActionSA remains committed to upholding the rule of law,” she wrote.
In response, the Patriotic Alliance confirmed that McKenzie has escalated the matter to Parliament, arguing that James’s conduct breaches the Code of Ethical Conduct for Members.
According to the complaint, the issue is not political disagreement but what the party describes as a pattern of behaviour that falls below the standards expected of Members of Parliament.
McKenzie alleges that James violated multiple provisions of the Code, including failing to uphold public trust, prioritising political interests over the public interest, undermining confidence in Parliament, and using derogatory language on social media.
At the centre of the dispute is a statement made by McKenzie during a Facebook Live session, where he used the phrase “the road is long.”
The Patriotic Alliance maintains that the phrase was a common idiom referring to the idea that truth unfolds over time, and not a threat.
The party further clarified that McKenzie’s reference to his security detail was not intended as intimidation but rather to highlight the improbability of the allegations against him.
The statement argued that McKenzie has been under continuous protection by the South African Police Service VIP Protection Unit for years, making the claims against him implausible without implicating law enforcement officers.
It added that James allegedly took the remarks out of context and framed them as a threat.
During the same Facebook Live session, McKenzie stated that he would respond to James “politically” and emphasised that he would never threaten a woman.
“I will defend all women. The women of the Patriotic Alliance look up to me and trust me with their concerns. I will never threaten any woman,” he said.
The Ethics complaint also raises concerns about James allegedly giving credibility to claims made by convicted fraudster Jermaine Prim, who is currently serving a prison sentence and faces additional charges.
The Patriotic Alliance claims the allegations are unsubstantiated and form part of a broader pattern of harassment directed at McKenzie and other party members.
The matter now awaits consideration by Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests.

]]>We cannot ignore the striking timing of these claims. They come at a moment when our
own leader has recently been chastised and punished for the use of language — and
now, another prominent Coloured leader finds himself in the cross-hairs.
This pattern raises serious questions about whether influential Coloured voices are being
systematically targeted and silenced.
The NCC stands firmly against racism in any form, but we equally reject the westernization of allegations to discredit and weaken leaders who dare to speak boldly
for their communities. Allegations, especially those as serious as this, must be tested on the facts — not used as tools for political assassination.
We call on the South African Human Rights Commission to prioritize and expedite its investigation so that Minister McKenzie can be cleared without delay.
The longer this matter drags on, the more it fuels speculation, division, and mistrust. Minister McKenzie must be given a fair opportunity to clear his name.
We will not stand idly by while the credibility of Coloured leaders is systematically attacked under the guise of moral outrage. This is not just about Minister McKenzie — it is about the broader struggle for fair representation, respect, and dignity for our communities.
