Mbuthuma has hit a frustrating patch, failing to score in his last seven Betway Premiership matches.

His last goal came in February during a convincing 3-0 victory over Marumo Gallants — and since then, chances have come and gone without reward.

The drought has sparked calls from sections of the Pirates faithful for the 24-year-old to be dropped, especially with crucial fixtures looming, including Saturday’s clash against AmaZulu FC.

But Ouaddou is having none of it. Speaking ahead of the encounter, the Buccaneers mentor made it clear that Mbuthuma still plays a vital role in the team’s structure, even when the goals are not flowing.

“The fans have to understand that Mbuthuma is their son,” says Ouaddou. “They have to support him and help him so he can help the team.”

Despite the recent dry spell, Mbuthuma’s overall numbers tell a different story. He has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 24 appearances across all competitions this season — a solid return that underlines his importance to the side.

Ouaddou also highlighted the striker’s work rate and contribution off the ball, praising his movement and link-up play between the lines.

“He’s doing a fantastic job,” he added. “Yes, we need that goal, and it will come. If the fans show him love and support, I’m 100% sure he will be alright.”

With pressure mounting and the title race heating up, all eyes will be on Mbuthuma to silence the critics — and rediscover his scoring touch when it matters most.

Pirates host AmaZulu at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday with the Betway Premiership clash set for a 3pm kickoff.
