The post N1 near Botlokwa shut after serious truck and bakkie collision as emergency teams race to secure scene appeared first on MDNtv.
]]>A major section of the N1 near Botlokwa has been shut down following a serious collision involving a truck and a VW Amarok, triggering significant disruption for motorists travelling through Limpopo on Friday.
The crash, which occurred close to Global Garage, has forced authorities to close the road between Sekonye Cross and Global Garage while emergency teams work to secure the scene and manage the aftermath.
For commuters, what is normally a fast-moving stretch of one of South Africa’s busiest highways has been reduced to a standstill, with traffic backing up and diversions now in full effect.
Limpopo’s Department of Transport and Community Safety confirmed that traffic law enforcement officers, South African Police Service members, and Emergency Medical Services were quickly deployed to the crash site.
Their priority, officials said, is to stabilise the situation, assist those involved, and ensure the safe removal of vehicles before reopening the road.
At this stage, details regarding injuries have not yet been confirmed.
Authorities have urged motorists to avoid the affected stretch entirely and follow clearly marked alternative routes.
Drivers travelling from Polokwane towards the north are being instructed to turn left at Sekonye Cross, use the alternative road network, and rejoin the N1 at Global Garage.
Motorists travelling from the north towards Polokwane are advised to exit at Global Garage, use the old road towards Sekonye Cross, and re-enter the N1 further along the route.
Officials have warned that ignoring these instructions could worsen congestion and delay emergency operations on the ground.
While the immediate focus remains on clearing the scene, the incident has once again highlighted the dangers of high-speed travel on major freight corridors.
The department has appealed to all road users to reduce speed, obey traffic signals, and comply fully with instructions from officials deployed at the site.
An investigation into the cause of the collision is expected once the scene has been cleared and normal traffic flow is restored.
For now, the N1 remains partially paralysed, with thousands of motorists forced to reroute their journeys across one of Limpopo’s most critical transport arteries.
