The Polokwane High Court has sentenced a 47 year old Nathaniel Molatelo Mokgehle from Sekonye Village in Botlokwa to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for the brutal murder of then girlfriend, 41 year old Mokgadi Julia Mohlaela on Wednesday.

The accused was also sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for malicious damage to property, with the sentences ordered to run concurrently.

In the fall of 08 June 2025, Mokgadi was relaxing at her mother’s house after ending a toxic relationship with Mokgehle. She was relieved after opening a case against him for malicious damage to property. At the time, he was out on bail attending the case at Morebeng magistrate court.

Mokgadi and her mother were ambushed around 16:00 hours in the afternoon by Mokgehle who was armed with a sharp knife.

According to the limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba Mokgadi tried to flee, however her speed was too not speed enough to save her life. He caught up with her and stabbed her until she collapsed to the ground.

During the confrontation, the accused produced a knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim. She attempted to flee the house, but the accused chased after her and continued stabbing her until she collapsed to the ground. Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and certified her dead.

The accused made his first court appearance before the Morebeng Magistrate’s Court on 09 June 2025. His bail application was opposed, and he remained in custody. The matter was later transferred to the Polokwane High Court, where the trial commenced on 02 March 2026 and concluded on 04 March 2026, resulting in the conviction and sentencing.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the investigating officer for the diligent investigation that ensured justice for Mohlaela family.

She joined the Limpopo Province in 01 May 2021 after predecessor former Provincial Police Commissioner Lt General Nneke Ledwaba.

Hadebe reminded police officers that the government expect them to provide professional service.

She praised the Majeje community for involving officials whenever they apprehended a criminal, than resulting in Mob justice.

Members of the community were encouraged to play a pivotal role and be resilient and not allow foreigners to tarnish their community.

The message was well received by Chief Majeje II, who acknowledged that African customs have been hard on women and treated them as objects for decades.

” It is up to us men to change what our forefathers have created. Women alone can not resolve the issue of GBV. I would like to call upon all young men and men for a meeting on the first month of 2026″ said Chief Majeje II

The Chief encouraged all men to assist with household chores as a starting point.

He disagreed with the provincial commissioner that most crimes are committed by foreigners.

“The Mozambicans who reside here are no longer foreigners. They came here in 1974, when there was a war in Mozambique. When they’re here in South Africa, their home, ” He said.

The Chief promised to take a stand against GBVF in the community.

A 25 year-old male murderer, Tlhandluko Gift Chauke, a resident at Gawula village under Giyani policing area was lashed with 25 year imprisonment by the Thohoyandou High court on Wednesday 10 December 2025 following the killing of a 20 year-old girlfriend.

Limpopo Policespokesperson Lt Col Malesela Ledwaba said it was on 9 January 2024, Tlhandluko invited a male friend, Renneisence Kulani Chauke whose age is still to be determined in assisting with disciplining Miranda Chauke, (now deceased) after being accused of infidelity.

The following day on 10 January 2024, the accused and his accomplice allegedly assaulted Miranda Chauke while at her residence and took her to the near bushes afterward.

On arrival, the duo continued to assault the victim and also further strangled her to death and later fled the scene on foot.

Following the incident, on 11 January 2024, the accused shamelessly went to local police to report that they killed his girlfriend who was left in the bushes at the same village.

Police together with the accused rushed to the vicinity and found the lifeless body of a 20 year-old female victim and he was immediately arrested on the spot for a murder charge.

The matter was assigned to Constable Nhlalala Shilenge who enthusiastically commenced with the investigations that led to an arrest of his accomplice a few days after the incident.

The two were never granted bail until Tlhandluko Gift Chauke pleaded guilty and was handed a 25 years imprisonment sentencing for the murder offense.

However, Renneisence Kulani Chauke did not plead guilty and his case was postponed to next year 6 March 2026 for trial.

Two young women, aged just 19 and 20, have landed behind bars after police intercepted them with a stolen Toyota Hilux GD-6 on its way to Zimbabwe. The vehicle, stolen in Pretoria East, was reportedly en route to be smuggled across the Beitbridge border when authorities stepped in.

According to Limpopo police, the dramatic arrest happened near the Polokwane weighbridge on the R101. During the operation, a male suspect abandoned the vehicle and ran into nearby bushes. The two women tried to flee on foot, but officers chased them down and took them into custody.

The suspects, Lerato Pertunia Mosoge (20) and Makhanani Mmolawa (19), appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court and are facing charges of possessing a suspected stolen vehicle. They were denied bail and remain in custody as police continue to profile them. Their case is expected to return to court next Tuesday.

Initial investigations confirmed that the bakkie was reported stolen on May 16 in Garsfontein, Pretoria.

In a separate but similar case, police also arrested a 31-year-old man, Mikael Mlambo, who was caught driving a stolen Toyota Corolla Cross toward Beitbridge. He too was remanded in custody, with his court appearance scheduled for Monday.

Police suspect that both cases may be connected to a larger cross-border vehicle smuggling network that has targeted Gauteng in recent months.
