MEC for Health Dieketseng Mashego, accompanied by the Executive mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, Polokwane Executive Mayor, and theĀ Directors of Development Bank of Southern Africa, conducted an oversight visit at the construction site of Limpopo Academic Hospital in Polokwane on Friday ( 21 May 2026)
All inspectors were pleased with the 48% work done since 18 July 2023.
The 5 billion rand project will serve as a premier teaching hospital for the University of Limpopo _ faculty of Health Sciences.
It is designed to be fully integrated with the medical training ecosystem in the province.
Health Practioners such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals will be trained at the hospital.
The aim of constructing such a massive hospital with a 488-bed tertiary and academic facility is to provide highly specialized level 3 medical services and drastically reduce the need for the residents to travel to Gauteng for advanced care.
The following specialists will be available:
* Oncology
* Trauma and Burns
* Cardiology
* Neonatal care
* Obstetrics and
* Emergency Medicare
The hospital is funded by the National Department of Health with financial backing from institutions like the New Development Bank.
Construction is managed by the Development Bank of Southern Africa ( DBSA).
A three year existence_ Gauteng based company, Enza Construction, is owned by brothers Rowan and Clinton Crowe.
The hospital will be launched in December 2028.
