KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Leuitenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has warned members of the public against threatening foreign nationals, saying civilians do not have the authority to verify people’s documentation status.

This comes after marchers in KZN held a march in what they called cleaning up the Durban CBD on Tuesday which saw many foreign owned shops being closed from Tuesday and Wednesday.

In a statement released by KZN SAPS Spolesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda

said police are reminding those who stage protests, plan, organise and or participate in marches that they must do so within the perimeters of the law.

“Police have manned several marches in Durban and other parts of the province which are mainly targeted on foreign nationals. There are also video clips circulating on social media showing acts of lawlessness during certain marches.

“As much as it is a constitutional right to march, the rights of those marching must never infringe the rights of those who are not. No civilian has the right to search a fellow civilian and request or demand any form of identification. Only law enforcement officers are authorised to stop, search, and request individuals to produce documentations that permit them to be in the country,” he said.

Netshiunda said the police have also noted that several shops, owned by both South Africans and foreign nationals, have remained closed following threats of violence from certain individuals who were part of a march.

“Police wish to remind residents that intimidation can constitute a criminal offence and people must refrain from threatening others. Assaulting another person, whether a foreign national or not, is a criminal offence and police will not standby and watch when the law is being broken. Public Order Police officers will continue to monitor marches, ensuring that the is stability, law and order.

“The management of police in KwaZulu-Natal will have a meeting with the organisers of the marches soon in order to have a common understanding and provide assistance and clarity where needed. It is illegal for a foreigner to be in the country without proper documentation, however, only mandated law enforcement officers can arrest undocumented foreign nationals and detain them pending deportation processes,” he said.

He further said anyone who has information about illegal activities, whether committed by locals or foreign nationals, must tip-off the police so that the information can be operationalised.

“Doing the right things the wrong way, such as taking the law into someone’s hands, can lead to unintended consequences of being in conflict with the law,” he warned.

Earlier on Wednesday,.Mkhwanazi made the same remarks while speaking to Newzroom Afrika amid rising tensions involving groups targeting alleged undocumented foreigners.

He emphasized that only law enforcement officials are permitted to check identification and immigration status.

“They cannot just go and threaten foreigners without knowing whether they are documented or not,” he said.

The commissioner also confirmed that police he will meet with leaders of the March and March movement to address the situation and prevent further conflict.

A woman was sentenced to life and five years’ imprisonment by the Madadeni Regional Court in Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natl (KZN), after she pleaded guilty to raping and displaying pornographic material to her brother who was eight years old when the offences began.

The offences took place in the Osizweni area.

According to KZN National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Natasha Ramkisson-Kara the complainant and the accused are biological siblings, and they resided in the same home with their mother.

“During the period of 2022 to 2024, and whilst the accused was alone with the complainant at home, the accused raped the complainant on diverse occasions. She further displayed pornographic material to him on those occasions. Following the incidents, she threatened him not to tell anyone what she had done.

“The offences came to light in 2024 after the complainant attended a presentation at school, where learners were told to report anyone who touches their private parts. This presentation encouraged him to report the matter to his mother. The complainant was taken to the Madadeni Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC) for medical and psychosocial support. The police were informed, and the accused was subsequently arrested,” she said.

Kara said that in aggravation of sentence, Prosecutor Zama Zikalala emphasised that the accused had abused a position of trust as the victim’s older sister.

“The victim’s mother also testified about the behavioural impact the abuse has had on her son. The court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment for rape and five years’ imprisonment for exposing a minor to pornographic material. She was further declared unfit to possess a firearm, and the court ordered that her name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders,” she said.

A prayer service for the embattled Police Minister Senzo Mchunu was held in Greyville Racecourse in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal(KZN) on Saturday.

The service was held in support of Mchunu, who has been on special leave since July, last year.

His leave emanates from allegations of interference in police activities and collusion with criminal elements.

The claims were made by the KZN police Commissioner Leuitenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that resulted in the establishment of a judicial commission to probe them.

"You Stick With Your Brother Through Thick And Thin"-Ngizwe Mchunu

Mchunu is alleged to have authprized the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in December 2024 without followign proper procedures.

Supporters and independent faith groups gathered to pray for his “deliverance” and strength during a period of intense scrutiny and political pressure.

This followed a similar gathering in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, in February 2026 which was hailed as a success by organizer Sipho Nathi Mafuyela.

Another prayer was previously held at Mchunu’s home in eMpangeni, KZN.

Organizers state the prayers are meant to support Mchunu, who is “embattled” and on special leave, amid claims that the allegations against him are unfounded.

Spokesperson Sithembiso Mshengu confirmed that while Mchunu is aware of the services, they are not officially sanctioned by him but are conducted independently.

At the center of a probe by the Madlanga Commission and a Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee is the allegations that he unilaterally disbanded the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in December 2024.

The situation led to intense political scrutiny, including calls from opposition parties for his dismissal and accusations of potential criminal implications.

The prayers have sparked mixed reactions, with some supporters rallying behind him while others argue that the focus should be on accountability and the truth.

Speaking to the attendees, controversial Podcast And Chill Network Co-Presenter Ngizwe Mchunu said he will never turn his back agaunst his own.

“I recieved a call informing me that there was a prayer for one of our own Senzo Mchunu about the problems he is facing. Pretenders will forever be there even in the bible they were there before us. This is a fight against the Zulu nation. If you wajt to fight Zulu’s , you have to divide them. Whether you are a Christian or not, you have to take this message, the day of Sabaath means life so when Sabaath is no longer bringing life than I don’t know what does it mean.

“I don’t know him to be scandalous, I’m here to speak about my brother Senzo. To speak about what I know about him, if you have a problem with you must you must “voetsek”. I’m here to tell the history of Senzo Mchunu. He was the head of the province and there was never a time where there were scandalous stories about him. In 2004 the ANC ruled the province under his organusation,” he said.

Mchunu further said: “I’m not here to campaign for him. For the ANC to rule the province , for Jacob Zuma (former South African President) to win the Polokwane Conference, it was Senzo Mchunu who had the numbers. It was Senzo Mchunu who played the huge role for Zuma to become the President. Enemy is a very important item on earth. I don’t care who says what, but I want to tell you that there is no dustin for a human being. You stick with your brother through thick and thin. That is a power of life , that is a power of wisdom, that is a power of family,” he said.

Sakhile Shezi, the founder of Prayer For Senzo Mchunu.said that he had a vision that he must form a group to start a prayer line for Mchunu.

“It just a vision that came to me that I must start a prayer line. It then happened dawned on me that we must pray for Senzo Mchunu and his family. We have to respect and applaud President Cyril Ramaphosa for establishing the Ad hoc Committee and the Madlanga Committee, we will have to respect the outcomes of both Madlanga and Adhoc Committee,” he said while explaining how the prayer line was formed.

Manuel, a recipient of the prestigious KwaZulu-Natal Premier’s Bursary Programme, was in the final stages of his instructor training when the light aircraft went down near Sofasonke on Thursday. His flight instructor also tragically lost their life in the accident.

The eThekwini native is being remembered as a dedicated and passionate aviator whose promising career was cut short. KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli led the tributes, describing Manuel as a “shining example” of determination and talent.

“He demonstrated remarkable hard work and commitment as he neared the completion of his training,” Premier Ntuli said. He extended heartfelt condolences to Manuel’s family, friends, and the broader aviation community, adding that the province would continue to support youth development in Manuel’s honour.

A mourning family in Stanger in Kwazulu-Natal (KZN) decided to rock up with a deceased body at the Capitec bank branch as a proof of death.

This was done after the Capitec bank allegedly refused to process the claim of the deceased telling the family to bring proof that indeed the person was late on Wednesday.

Instead of rushing to Home Affairs to get a death certificate, it is alleged that the family collected the dead body from the mortuary and dumped it inside Capitec Bank in Stanger.

It is alleged that Capitec Bank refused to process the claim ordering the family to bring proof that indeed their loved one had passed away.

The bank had to close early amid this situation.

This was not the first incident of this nature in this town.

Last year, A grieving family brought a dead body in a coffin into Capitec Bank at KwaDukuza Mall in protest over an alleged funeral insurance payout delay.

According to the family, they had filed the claim last and were initially told payment would be processed within 48 hours.

They were later informed funds would only be available by August 22, nearly a month later.

Feeling helpless, the family made the drastic decision to take the deceased to the bank to highlight the emotional and financial burden caused by the delay.

The incident shocked shoppers and staff, drawing concern and sympathy from onlookers.

In 2019, a video showing Ntombenhle Mhlongo and Thandaza Mtshali went viral on social media this week, showing the two carrying the body of 46-year-old Sifiso Mhlongo in a body bag into an Old Mutual office in Stanger.

Old Mutual then rapidly paid out the R30 000 due and Mhlongo was buried.

The family of the missing pregnant is seeking public assistance to help find her.

The 21-year-old pregnant woman, Anele Khumalo from KwaMashu township in the North of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has been reported missing after she disappeared on the evening of 16 December 2025.

According to information provided by family members, who resides in KwaMashu Hostel in KwaMashu left home earlier that day to spend time at the beach with a female friend.

Reaction South Africa (Rusa) Spokesperson Prem Balram said that after returning from the beach, Anele later visited the residence of another female friend, where she reportedly went to change her clothes.

“The second friend informed relatives that while at her home, Khumalo received a phone call from an unknown male. During the call, the female was overheard asking whether the man would buy her savanna cider if she came to visit him. After the call ended, Khumalo left the residence allegedly already under the influence of alcohol. She has not been seen or heard from since,” he said.

Balram said the family members have raised serious concerns due to the fact that Khumalo was seven months pregnant at the time of her disappearance.

“She is described as slim, with a fair complexion, black hair and dark brown to black eyes. She has a tattoo of her name and date of birth on her left forearm. At the time she went missing, Khumalo was reportedly wearing a short pink dress and flat sandals,” he said.

Elderly women in Jozini, northern KwaZulu-Natal, received food parcels during a festive season relief drive

Elderly women from deep rural communities in northern KwaZulu-Natal say they will remain forever grateful after receiving food parcels that helped them get through the festive season with dignity.

The women were among hundreds of vulnerable residents who benefitted from a food distribution drive led through the Mike Mabuyakhulu Foundation, which distributed 800 food parcels to households facing severe hardship.

Among the recipients were Nanile Gumede from Haliya Village, Bajabulile Shangase from Gumbi Village and Manesi Ntombi Menyuka from Othobothini in Jozini, an area where unemployment and poverty continue to affect many families.

They said the festive season would have been marked by hunger if the intervention had not arrived when it did.

Gumede said her household is stretched by unemployment and dependency on social grants.

“I’m staying with five unemployed kids of mine and thirteen grandkids. No one is employed and we rely more on social grants. When I was informed that I was nominated to be part of the recipients, I was excited because I knew we were going to enjoy December holidays like any other families,” she said.

Shangase described the moment she was called forward as overwhelming.

“I was over the moon when I was mentioned to come forward and received. The joy I had, I even wished to throw away my walking stick but I was going to fall down,” she said.

Menyuka said the support is vital in communities where many older women are widowed and unemployed.

“I’m grateful to the Mike Mabuyakhulu Foundation for what they are doing for the people of Jozini. I wish him nothing but more heart to give because he knows that most people here are widows and are unemployed,” she said.

Ward 8 Branch Task Team Coordinator Mandisa Shabangu said the initiative strengthened local efforts to support the elderly and address youth unemployment.

“We are very grateful to be part of this initiative and we continue working together, especially since we want to work with them in assisting the youth to be empowered education-wise and get jobs. We are very grateful and we wish to do more come December 2026,” she said.

Community leaders say the need for food support remains urgent as many households continue to rely on grants, informal work and seasonal support, especially during school holidays when costs rise.

The foundation has indicated that its outreach focuses on food security and community support in vulnerable areas, with local partners calling for continued collaboration beyond festive seasons.

After spending over five years in the United States of America (USA) chasing his dream of becoming a deejay, Dj Mpiloz has decided to return back home and open his Ikhaya Shisanyama and Carwash business.

Real name Philani Manyoni, the Pholisa hitmaker recently returned from the USA where he left behind his Irish born fiance in order to pursue his other business interest in South Africa.

Speaking to MDN, Dj Mpiloz said that opening the Ikhaya Shisanyama and Carwash was a dream come true for him.

‘Ikhaya is a Zulu word which means home. I wanted to build something that will always remind me where home is at. With the Shisanyama and Carwash business, I will be able to spend time in the USA and also come back to check on the business on how is it doing. This is something which will make me come back home at anytime,” he said.

Despite being open about his Irish born fiance, Dj Mpiloz said that he prefers his relationship private since she is someone who is not in the public domain.

‘Yes I’m engaged to a beautiful white Irish girl since last year. We are still not married yet hopefully the date will come soon. I will invite you all,” he said giggling.

Speaking about being homesick, Dj Mpiloz said that business as the side hustle will always be good since it will help him to pay the bills.

“I needed something on the side that will feed my family because you know in the music industry sometimes gigs can be dry, but the bills still stand. I needed to have something that can put bread on the table so that I can be able to provide for my family,” he said.

Dj Mpiloz further said that on his latest single titled Pholisa he featured is friends Tebza De Dj and singer Buhle Nhlangulela.

“The way the song was made is magical. I recently came back home because my sister is getting married. Tebza called me and when I arrived in studio there was Buhle. What happened next is magic, that is how Pholisa was made. It was a blessing in disguise because after the wedding I’m going back to the USA where I get more recognition than in SA,” he said.

Dj Mpiloz said that he also get more recognition in the UK, Qatar, Mexico, Netherlands, Kenya , Ethiopia and Argentina just to name the few.

“My dream is to be recognized everywhere, specifically in the international stage. I want to be able to donate houses for the poor, food and clothes for those who are in need,” he said.
