Stolen corpses from Kuruman mortuary still missing

More than two months after a chilling theft at Motheo Wa Bophelo Funeral Parlour in Kuruman, Northern Cape, on March 17, the whereabouts of three stolen corpses two adult males and a baby girl remain unknown, deepening the anguish of affected families and shocking South Africans nationwide.

The incident, described as “unprecedented” by local authorities, has left the community grappling with grief and unanswered questions.

The theft occurred in the early hours when two unidentified suspects overpowered a security guard, blindfolded him, and fled with the bodies.

Northern Cape police, under Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock, have launched a dedicated task team to probe the case, offering a R100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators and the recovery of the remains.

Despite extensive investigations, no significant leads have emerged, and the motive remains elusive, with speculation ranging from ritualistic practices to illegal organ trade, though police have urged the public to avoid unverified theories.
