The simulation, conducted every two years as part of international aviation requirements, was designed to strengthen response systems, protocols, and coordination among various stakeholders.

The exercise brought together multiple partners, including the South African Police Service, eThekwini Disaster Risk Management Centre, fire and rescue teams, metro emergency medical services, traffic police, and other critical support agencies.

Authorities assured the public that this was a planned drill, not an actual emergency, and normal airport operations continued without disruption. Residents and travelers were advised to expect visible emergency activity in and around the airport during the exercise.
