The post Court Forces Musa Khawula to Apologise to Julius Malema After Defamatory Marriage Claims appeared first on MDNtv.
]]>The apology marks a significant setback for the outspoken social media personality, whose posts about the Malema family sparked legal action after he made allegations about the couple’s marriage that were later found to be false and defamatory.
At the centre of the dispute were posts published on Khawula’s X account in February 2026. In those posts, he claimed that Malema’s marriage was allegedly falling apart because of infidelity and suggested that divorce proceedings were imminent.
The court found those allegations to be unlawful, false and damaging. It further ruled that the claims caused harm not only to Malema and his wife but also to their family, including their minor children.
In a formal statement issued in compliance with the court order, Khawula retracted the allegations and offered an unconditional apology.
“I sincerely and unreservedly apologise to Mr Julius Sello Malema, Mrs Mantoa Matlala Malema and the Malema family for the harm and distress caused by my posts,” he said.
He further acknowledged that the statements he had published were baseless and defamatory.
Despite the seriousness of the court ruling, Khawula maintained his characteristic online style when addressing the matter on social media.
In a post on X, he wrote: “Askies neh, my sweet angel baby pie @Julius_S_Malema. I’m also gonna be voting EFF, we can’t afford to lose even one vote by shipping my lil broke a*s to prison, think ahead, my sweet darling, oh! how i love you.”
The apology comes after months of escalating legal pressure.
In April 2026, the Gauteng High Court ordered Khawula to remove the offending posts, publish a public apology within 24 hours and pay legal costs. However, he failed to comply with the ruling.
His refusal to act led to further legal consequences. In May, the court found him in contempt and imposed a 30-day prison sentence, suspended for 30 days on condition that he complied with the original order.
Facing the prospect of imprisonment, Khawula eventually issued the court-mandated apology on 6 and 7 June 2026.
The court’s ruling also places future restrictions on the blogger. He has been prohibited from publishing similar allegations about the Malema family going forward.
The case has once again highlighted the growing legal scrutiny facing social media personalities who publish unverified claims online. It also serves as a reminder that digital platforms are not beyond the reach of South Africa’s courts, particularly when reputational harm and the rights of families are at stake.
For Julius Malema and his family, the ruling brings a measure of vindication after months of public speculation. For Khawula, it stands as a stark warning about the legal consequences of crossing the line between commentary and defamation.
