The post BREAKING NEWS: Father of Bafana Mahungela Claims Son Is Being “Scapegoated” in Kirsten Kluyts Murder Case appeared first on MDNtv.
]]>Mahungela is facing serious charges including kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, murder, and attempted rape. He has pleaded not guilty and continues to maintain his innocence.
Speaking to MDNtv, Mahungela’s father claimed police did not conduct a sufficiently broad investigation and instead focused too quickly on his son after he was allegedly seen entering the park where the incident took place.
According to him, investigators narrowed their focus prematurely rather than exploring all possible leads and potential suspects.
He alleges that his son is being used as a scapegoat in the case and claims that authorities may have overlooked other avenues of investigation. He further suggested that investigators may have had indications pointing elsewhere but failed to pursue those leads fully.
The allegations come as Mahungela continues to stand trial in connection with the death of Kluyts, whose murder shocked the nation and attracted widespread public attention.
Mahungela was reportedly arrested after CCTV footage allegedly placed him leaving the park area around the time of the killing. The state also alleges that he was seen wearing clothing linked to the victim.
Prosecutors are expected to rely on CCTV footage and other evidence as they continue to present their case before the court.
Mahungela has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He is currently representing himself in court after indicating that his family had experienced difficulties securing private legal representation.
The state maintains that it has a strong case against the accused, while the defence continues to challenge the evidence presented.
The trial is expected to continue as the court hears further testimony and examines the evidence before it.
The allegations made by Mahungela’s father are his own and have not been tested in court. The accused remains innocent until proven guilty.

]]>Matlala, together with Musa Kekana, Tiego Floyd Mabusela, and Tsakani Matlala, appeared before the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Johannesburg on Thursday.

The accused are facing 25 charges, including 11 counts of attempted murder, linked to three separate shooting incidents allegedly committed between August 2022 and January 2024.
According to NPA Communications Officer for the Gauteng Division in Johannesburg, Magaboke Mohlatlole, the trial is scheduled to commence on 20 July 2026.
Counsel representing Matlala informed the court that they intend to bring an application to compel the State to provide outstanding particulars that were previously requested.
That application is expected to be heard on 15 June 2026.
Accused number five also indicated plans to submit representations to the Office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions following the rejection of earlier representations by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mohlatlole said the State alleges that the accused orchestrated a shooting, laundered money linked to the alleged plot, and used a fraudulent invoice to conceal the source of the funds and mislead the court.
“Accused one, two, and three remain in custody, while the bail of accused four and five has been extended,” said Mohlatlole.
The State has confirmed that it is ready to proceed with the trial on the scheduled date.

]]>The lawyer for Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe has spoken to the media following a brief court appearance at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.
Mugabe and his co-accused, Tobias Mugabe Matonhodze, appeared in court on charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and unlawful possession of a firearm. The charges relate to a shooting incident at a Hyde Park residence last week, where a 23-year-old gardener was critically injured.
According to the defence, they cannot comment in detail on the allegations as police investigations are still ongoing and the full docket has not yet been provided. The lawyer confirmed that additional charges have now been added to the original attempted murder count.
The bail application was not heard today. Authorities are still completing verification processes with the Department of Home Affairs and other agencies. The defence team also indicated that further consultation with their clients is needed before the next legal steps are taken.
The matter has been postponed to 3 March 2026, when both accused are expected to return to court for a formal bail hearing.
