According to information shared with Jozi FM News, Sekano was in Chiawelo on Friday night visiting a friend.

His friend says they were seated inside a vehicle outside his yard when two unknown males walked past them.

The deceased reportedly expressed concern, saying he hoped the two men were not going to cause trouble.

The friend further explained that after walking a few metres away, the two suspects turned back and allegedly produced firearms.

He says they ran from the vehicle, and moments later he could no longer see Thabo.

He then sought assistance. When they arrived at the scene outside his home, the vehicle was gone and Sekano was nowhere to be found.

It was later confirmed that Thabo Sekano had been murdered. His body was discovered near an informal settlement in Lenasia South.

The family and the deceased’s friend are appealing to anyone with information regarding the hijacking and murder to come forward.

Police have opened cases of murder and car hijacking, and investigations are underway.

Divers from the Westrand Water Policing and Diving Services were deployed to the scene on Friday at Lakeview Dam, opposite Daxina Hospital.

On arrival, members recovered the body of a 40-year-old male reported to be in a severe state of decomposition.

Police used an inflatable vessel to locate the victim before the body was handed over to members of Ennerdale SAPS at the scene.

An inquest docket has since been opened for further investigation.

Authorities are urging members of the public to take precautionary measures when entering dams, rivers and other water bodies.

Media Liaison Officer for Rapid Response Services in Gauteng, Raymond Sambo said precautionary measures remain critical to prevent unnecessary loss of life.

“Individuals venturing into dams, rivers or water for any activity are advised to do so only with a life jacket,” said Sambo.

“Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information to contact the relevant police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” he said.

This comes after a dash cam captured the fatal attack of a 22-year old Nigerian e-hailing or Bolt driver Isaac Satlat in Pretoria.

The young man was assaulted, hijacked and strangled to death on Thursday night in Pretoria.

His body and the car were later found some kilometers away in Moshongo in Attridgeville just outside Pretoria.

Satlat was a student and he was due to graduate next month and plans were underway for him to move to Canada to continue with his studies.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving a driver operating on the platform. Our thoughts and condolences are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are aware of the video circulating online and understand the concern it has generated. We are working closely with law enforcement authorities and will provide all necessary information to support their investigation and help bring those responsible to justice,” the statement reads.

Bolt said they are conducting a thorough internal review of this case and will take any additional measures necessary to strengthen enforcement and enhance safety on the platform.

“As this is an active investigation, we will not be able to comment further at this time,” the statement reads.

So far, a male and a female have been arrested in connection with the murder of Satlat.

Gauteng police initially a female suspect, who faces charges of carjacking and murder and is expected to appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court.

Law enforcement confirmed the arrest of a second individual believed to have been involved in the fatal hijacking. A third suspect is reportedly still at large. Police have urged members of the public to provide any information that could assist with the ongoing investigation.

The case remains under investigation as authorities work to apprehend all individuals responsible. Police continue to gather evidence and appeal to witnesses to come forward. Court proceedings for the arrested suspects are pending, with updates expected as the legal process unfolds.

The police in Katlehong in Gauteng have already arrested the chairperson of the Gauteng Crime Fighting Units, Duma Radebe.

The arrest of Duma follow a case which was opened in December by an alleged drug dealer who claimed he was assaulted and pointed with a firearm during a festive operation held in the area.

It is alleged that Duma was with Khumalo and a third party when the incident happened.

Gauteng SAPS Spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed the incident.

“A 45-year-old male has been arrested and will be charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and pointing of firearm. It is alleged that the suspect and his accomplices assaulted the victim and pointed him with firearms as they accused him of selling drugs. The suspect is expected to appear before Palmridge Magistrate Court in due course,” said Masondo.

MDN News undestands that the cops are also searching for two more crime fighters, the former Sizokthola host Xolani Khumalo and another member.

When Masondo was pressed about Khumalo being on the wanted, he declined to comment further.

“Unfortunately the law doesn’t allow the police to mention the name of the suspect if there is no warrant of arrest issued against him,” he said.

Khumalo is not new to controversy after his arrest in 2023 in which he was charged with murder, assualt and for theft.

The charges were later withdrawn and later Moja Love reinstated to his shpw as the presenter.

His remarks followed online speculation that several suspects had already been questioned — claims later denied by police, who confirmed that no arrests had yet been made and that investigations were ongoing.

Further clarity was also provided around the circumstances leading up to the shooting. City officials confirmed that DJ Warras was not acting on behalf of the City of Johannesburg at the time of his death. Instead, he was reportedly involved in a private engagement linked to security operations at the building, following a request from the property owner’s legal representatives.

Authorities stressed that the city does not contract private security companies to manage or monitor hijacked buildings and that DJ Warras’ involvement was not part of any official municipal mandate. Investigations into his murder continue as pressure mounts for justice to be served.
