]]>The incident unfolded on Thursday morning, 12 March 2026, when the Grade 9 learner was allegedly attacked by a 17-year-old Grade 10 learner. The injured boy was rushed to a nearby clinic, but sadly passed away from his wounds.
The school has already begun disciplinary proceedings against the older learner, while police are investigating the full circumstances.
To help the shaken school community, the Gauteng Department of Education’s Psychosocial Support Unit will be on site tomorrow, Friday, to offer counselling to learners and teachers.
Speaking on the tragedy, MEC Chiloane said: “We are devastated by this tragic loss of life and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased learner and the entire Badirile Secondary School community. We strongly discourage any acts of violence among learners, as such actions have irreversible consequences. We urgently call upon parents and guardians to work with us in instilling discipline at home — it truly takes all of us to keep our children safe and on the right path.”
