While many close family members and some community members refused to accept her gender preference, Singer Sandy has found healing through music.

Real name Sandy Shezi from Zwelisha in Adams Mission outside Durban in KwaZulu Natal (KZN), Afro Soul Singer Sandy is a proud lesbian who has seen it all in life.

“Growing up in a disadvantage background and at the same time discovering ypurself that you are part of a lesbian community is a hard thing for anyone. The people who are supposed to be your support structure become enemy number one, they look down on you just because you are openly gay. I’m unapologetic about being a lesbiamln, it is who I am and I so wish people can start treating like normal human beings,” she said.

Sandy said that while she may be facing challenges from where she comes from, she decided to use music to address the problem and at the same time healing.

She recently released a single titled Ngiyazifela.

“When I’m in studio singing, everything goes away. The pain and suffering becomes the thing of the past because everything just goes away. “Ngiyazifela” which translates from isiZulu to mean, ‘I love you immensely’, is more than just a love song. It is a moving tribute to a rare connection between two souls, a love so pure that even in the coldest moments, it brings warmth to the heart. It brings joy and happiness, it brings out the sense of belonging.

“Ngiyazifela speakes to couples who have found their forever in each other, the track emphasises the unwavering love, the kind that stands strong through all seasons is the most precious treasure in the universe. ‘Ngiyazifela’ is a reminder that love is not just spoken it is felt, protected and cherished,” she said.

Sandy said that she want to inspire people to love irregardless.
