]]> Driving under the influence of alcohol and Gender Based violence continues to impact the province of peace ahead of their Christmas Eve celebration.

Provincial police have released a one week report ( from 15 December _ 21 December 2005), indicating that about 1525 suspects were arrested.

The operation was executed through roadblocks stop and searches, tracing operations and high visibility disruptions and crime awareness campaigns.

The suspects were arrested for various offenses:

  •  illegal migrants (384)
  •  driving under the influence of alcohol (99)
  •  assult_GBH (102)
  • malicious damage of property ( 43)
  • assault common (101)
  • rape (21)
  • possession of drugs (61)
  •  illicit mining (45)
  •  theft of or from motor vehicle (03)
  • murder (03)
  •  robbery residence (03)
  • business robbery (01)
  •  possession of dangerous weapons (24)
  •  illegal possession of firearms (04)
  •  illegal possession of ammunition (03)
  • burglary residential (15)
  • possession of counterfeit goods (4)
  •  illegal dealing in liquor (84)
  •  possession of illicit cigarettes (02)
  •  failure to keep records of second _ hand goods (01)
  •  dealing with drugs (11)
  • other crimes ( 496)

Provincial Police Commissioner Lt General Thembi Habede has praised the team’s in removing all forms of criminality in the province.

]]> Two individuals, including a Nigerian national, have been arrested in Makhaza, Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats for allegedly dealing in drugs.

 

Authorities say the arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation. Members of the Makhaza anti-hijacking team, working closely with Crime Intelligence, received a tip-off about premises that had recently received a drug delivery.

 

During a search at one location, officers uncovered quantities of tik and cocaine. A second search led to the arrest of a 55-year-old man after police discovered a large stash of drugs. The haul included 115 full mandrax tablets, six halves, seven quarters, and 42 packets of tik.

 

Police continue to intensify their operations in the area as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug-related crimes on the Cape Flats.
