Ramaphosa to Launch “Game-Changer” HIV Injection

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to launch the rollout of the lifesaving HIV prevention injectable medicine, Lenacapavir, later this week.

Lenacapavir is administered via injection twice a year, offering people six months of continuous protection per dose and providing welcome relief from daily pills or bi-monthly injections.

“This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant milestone in South Africa’s ongoing efforts to fight against HIV/AIDS and aims to enhance prevention of new HIV infections,” the Presidency said in a statement.

“Lenacapavir is a twice-yearly long-acting injectable option for HIV prevention, and the rollout highlights the collaboration between the government, civil society, the private sector, and development partners amongst the stakeholders committed to ending HIV as a public health threat in South Africa.”

Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu, provincial Health MECs, leaders of SANAC civil society, development partners, and donors, including the Global Fund, are expected to attend the launch.

The launch will be held at the Lilian Ngoyi Stadium in Secunda, Mpumalanga, on Friday.

Hugo Broos fires back over World Cup squad announcement ‘humiliation’ storm

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has fiercely defended his decision to drag his six axed preliminary squad players to Wednesday night’s live World Cup announcement, blasting claims that he publicly humiliated his own players.

The straight-talking Belgian tactician found himself at the centre of a raging social media storm after the six unfortunate stars — who were cut from the final 26-man traveling squad — had to sit outside at the Union Buildings while the final team was read out live on national television.

Fans and pundits alike labeled the move “cruel” and “embarrassing” as the players’ names were visibly left off the roster in front of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

However, speaking at a media briefing on Thursday morning, an unapologetic Broos revealed the deep, brotherhood-driven psychology behind his controversial decision.

For Broos, sending the players packing on Wednesday afternoon before the prestigious presidential send-off would have been the ultimate act of betrayal.

“I am a coach who believes in being a part of a group. And for me, there is no player who is above the group because there is no one player who can win me a game,” Broos explained passionately.

“We win games with the group… So, I wanted to keep the group together even in bad moments. For me, I think it would have been worse for the players if I had told them yesterday afternoon, ‘Look, guys, go home because you are not part of the 26. That would not have been right.”

The Bafana mentor argued that allowing the players to experience the glitz, glamour, and motivation of meeting the State President was a badge of honor they earned, regardless of whether they are boarding the plane to Mexico City next week.

“That is why I kept them. Together they went to the event with the president. Yes, the decision made there was disappointing for them, but they were still members of Bafana Bafana,” the coach insisted.

“I think it was not as bad as if I had told them yesterday afternoon and said, ‘Look, guys, go home now,’ and not even have them come to see the president.”

Broos concluded by stating that the gesture was meant to show maximum respect and inject long-term confidence into the players, rather than alienate them from the national setup.

“I wanted them to feel that I had confidence in them, but that I had to make a choice. It had nothing to do with anything else, but was just making the choice. I think it was the best way to do it.”

While the public debate will likely rage on throughout the week, Broos has drawn a line in the sand. Bafana Bafana moves as a pack — in victory, in heartbreak, and all the way to the global showpiece.

Hawks Financial Analysis Casts Doubt on Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala Claims

New forensic evidence from the ongoing Phala Phala burglary trial has contradicted President Cyril Ramaphosa’s long-held claim that $580,000 was stolen from his Limpopo farm in 2020.

Hawks analysts tracking the accused’s finances have linked over R15 million (more than $800,000) in cash deposits and luxury spending to the suspects shortly after the February 2020 break-in, nearly double the amount Ramaphosa has publicly acknowledged. The president has said the money came from a legal buffalo sale.

Opposition parties say the discrepancy suggests undeclared foreign currency and possible foreign exchange violations. Ramaphosa’s office maintains that the $580,000 figure is accurate. No charges have been filed against him.

The trial was postponed in Modimolle to today, Monday, with renewed political pressure following a May 2026 Constitutional Court ruling that revived impeachment proceedings over the scandal.

An older video of controversial businessman Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni has resurfaced, drawing major attention online.

In the video addressed to President Cyril Ramaphosa and Gwede Mantashe, Sibanyoni demands a 30% stake in Putco Bus Services, which has operated in KwaNdebele for more than 60 years.

Sibanyoni says that if government leaders do not assist them in securing the stake, they will be forced to “fight on their own.”

In the interim, President Ramaphosa has appointed Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga as the acting minister in the portfolio pending a full-time appointment in due course.

PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA MAKES SENIOR NATIONAL PROSECUTING AUTHORITY APPOINTMENTS TO BOLSTER THE FIGHT AGAINST CRIME

President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed two Deputy National Directors of Public Prosecutions as part of ensuring that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) remains effective in the fight against crime and enjoys public trust.

President Ramaphosa has appointed Adv Chuma Mtengwane as Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions: Asset Forfeiture Unit.

The President has also appointed Adv. Nicolette Astraid Bell as Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions: National Prosecutions Services.

The President has made these appointments in terms of section 11(1) of the National Prosecuting Authority Act, 1998 (Act No. 32 of 1998), and after consultation with the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Ms Mmamoloko Tryphosa Kubayi, and the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Adv Andy Mothibi.

President Ramaphosa wishes Adv Mtengwane and Adv Bell well as they assume their roles in the National Prosecuting Authority’s constitutionally empowered mandate to institute criminal proceedings on behalf of the State.

Adv. Chuma Mtengwane is a highly skilled prosecutor with 25 years of prosecutorial experience in the Public Sector, and she currently holds the position of Acting Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions: Asset Forfeiture Unit.

Her expertise ranges over asset forfeiture, criminal investigation, police communications, and trial litigation and settlement negotiation.

Adv Bell is a career prosecutor who joined the prosecution service on 1 May 1995 at Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court.

She was a Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions for more than 18 years. She has more than 29 years of legal experience, including 18 years at the Senior Management level within the NPA.
