Njabulo Madlanga appeared before the Booysens Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg, facing charges of crimen injuria and violating the Cyber Crimes Act for allegedly making false and defamatory claims of racism against three individuals.

The case stems from a TikTok post made in August 2023, in which Madlanga accused Reece Lopes, Milan Kruijer, and Jude Fraser-Grant of directing monkey noises at her and her siblings while they were in a queue at Gold Reef City. The trio denied the accusations and filed a criminal complaint.

After receiving a message from Kruijer in July 2023 denying the allegations and warning of legal action, Madlanga posted a screenshot of the message on social media, claiming she was being intimidated. The original post has since been deleted.

Despite presenting videos of the incident, Madlanga failed to provide evidence of racist behavior during a hearing for a protection order, which was granted in October 2023 to prevent further harassment of the complainants.

Madlanga has defended her statements as “her truth,” while the complainants’ legal team emphasized the serious impact of false accusations on social media. They urged the court to take a firm stance against the misuse of digital platforms to spread unverified claims.

The case has been postponed to July 7, 2025, for the disclosure of the docket and to schedule a trial date.
