Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched at approximately 22:34 on Friday following a call for assistance reporting that a robbery suspect had been apprehended by members of the public in Phase 2.
On arrival, Reaction Officers found a 20 year old male who had been pursued, overpowered and assaulted after participating in an armed robbery minutes earlier.
The 28 year old victim reported that he had been confronted by three (3) males while walking home from work. Two of the perpetrators were armed with firearms while the third carried an Okapi knife.
He was robbed of cash and stabbed in the back and thigh before a passerby intervened, forcing two of the offenders to flee in a white Toyota Avanza without registration plates.
The third was captured by the public and sustained injuries to his face and body during the assault. The victim was privately transported to Hospital for treatment.
On Saturday, Reaction Officers responded following reports of a taxi driver who had been shot in an attempted robbery.
It was established that two suspects approached a Toyota Quantum taxi as the driver was dropping off his girlfriend. One of the attackers produced a firearm and opened fire on the driver while he remained seated in the vehicle.
The driver was armed and returned fire in self-defence, forcing the perpetrators to flee on foot. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his abdomen and was privately transported to hospital.
Multiple spent cartridges were recovered on scene and the driver’s firearm was handed over to the Verulam SAPS in KZN. The mini bus was shot multiple times.
It is believed that the deceased male is one of the perpetrators involved in the attempted robbery while the injured and arrested individuals form part of the same group responsible for the earlier robbery.
He was clasping a Glock pistol (picture 8.
All injured parties were transported privately to hospital.

Speaking during a livestream beside her husband’s empty podcast chair, she began with a prayer before thanking first responders, close friends, and those who stood by her family during their darkest moment.
“My husband’s voice will remain,” she said, her words trembling with grief but filled with determination. “If you thought his mission was powerful before, you have no idea what has now been unleashed.”
Kirk, 31, was shot and killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. The suspect, Tyler Robinson, was taken into custody after a nationwide manhunt.
Erika described the pain of explaining her husband’s sudden loss to their young children. “Baby, daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus,” she said she told their daughter.
She spoke of Charlie’s devotion to his family, his faith, and his work, emphasizing that his tours, podcast, and message would continue in his absence. Holding back tears, she added: “Charlie loved his children, and he loved me—with all his heart. He made sure I knew that every single day.”
Despite the tragedy, she said her husband’s vision and passion would carry forward through the people he inspired.

Khayelihle Dhlomo, 53, was arrested almost a month ago and charged with the murder of his wife, Khanyisile, whose body was found with stab wounds at their Malvern home in 2022. On Friday, he appeared in the Durban magistrate’s court, where he described prison conditions as unbearable for someone in his state of health.
Dhlomo, who suffers from a heart condition and hypertension, told the court that he had not been able to access his regular medication since March. He also complained of untreated diarrhoea and said he had been living with another long-term medical problem that, according to specialists, could develop into cancer if left unchecked.
“I am not getting the medical attention I need,” he told the court, insisting that his ill health should be considered an exceptional circumstance for bail.
Beyond his medical issues, Dhlomo also raised concerns about the food he is served behind bars. He said his special diet required more fruit and protein, but claimed he had only been given basic meals, mostly without meat, and fruit limited to bananas, apples, and grapes. “Throughout my detention I have never been served meat or chicken. Maybe there is a famine in prison,” he said.
Adding to the intrigue of the hearing, Dhlomo revealed that his new partner, Phumzile Kunene — a long-time family friend he has been romantically involved with since his wife’s death — would pay his bail if it were granted.
The prosecution, however, pushed back. They argued that if his medical needs were truly as severe as he claimed, prison authorities would have referred him to major hospitals in Durban. Prosecutors also confronted him with notes allegedly written by his late wife, suggesting he had been abusive when smoking dagga. Dhlomo denied the claims, admitting he had used dagga in the past but insisting he had since stopped.
The courtroom was packed during the hearing, with family members, political supporters, and even Dhlomo’s uncle — former deputy health minister Dr. Sibongiseni Dhlomo — watching closely as the case unfolded.
The bail application continues, as the court weighs his health complaints against the seriousness of the charges he faces.
