According to police report, on Thursday night, police received a complaint that a person had been murdered at the Khlamtwna informal settlement.

“Police attended the scene and met a woman who identified herself as the deceased’s girlfriend. She indicated that she had received information that her boyfriend had been murdered and left in nearby bushes. Upon arrival at the scene, police noticed flames, indicating that something was burning.

“A naked male body was found lying on the ground with both hands tied behind his back, and the body had been set alight. During preliminary investigations, the deceased’s girlfriend indicated that the victim had allegedly been forcefully apprehended by a group of unknown community members after being accused of stealing their cattle,” read the report.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Ryno Naidoo, condemned the incident and warned community members against taking the law into their own hands.

He urged residents to report suspected criminal activities to the police so that such matters can be dealt with through proper legal processes.

Police investigations are continuing, and no arrests have been made at this stage.

“While they were still waiting for their orders, the criminals emerged from nowhere and started shooting at them for no reason. We are very traumatized about what happened to Litha who was a God fearing young man. A young man who wanted to perfect his Maths and go and study in University next year. Now it is all a dream which he will never realize because they took his life away. Litha was shot in tje head five times and his friend was shot twice in both legs,” he said.

On Friday a video emerged of a gunman from a Toyota Avanza, mumbling to himself and saying, “You think I’m playing?”who then then shouted at one of the men to get his attention, but when he attempted to shoot him in the back, the gun jammed.

One of the accomplices urged the gunman to shoot and stop talking. Both victims were shot in front of two young children who were inside the store.

According sources the two boys were shot in case of alleged misidentity.

“There are groups who extort money from these foreign nationals. These boys who are on the video shooting at those two boys had came earlier to extort loney but the shopowner told them that there is a group that came earlier and took the money. The boys left and came back armed and find Litha and his friend at the shop, they then thought it was the other group tjat had collected money earlier,” two well known sources said.

The residents has been forced to seek shelter in the Randgate Boxing Club and at the local community hall in Kagiso in the West Rand.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and African Transformation Movement (ATM) said they are deeply troubled to witness the displacement of approximately 300 families, primarily women and children who have been forced to flee their homes due to threats of violence and kidnapping from these so-called Zama zamas.

“The ATM is appalled by the apparent lack of intervention from our armed forces and law enforcement agencies in addressing this crisis. The failure to protect South African citizens on their own soil raises serious concerns about national security and the effectiveness of our intelligence services. It is unacceptable that our communities are left vulnerable to external threats, leading to fear and instability,” said ATM Spokesperson Zama Ntshona.

Ntshona said: “We call on the government to take immediate and decisive action to restore safety and security for all South Africans. This includes deploying law enforcement to the affected areas, providing necessary support to displaced families and ensuring that perpetrators of such violence are held accountable.”

The ATM and the EFF urges all South Africans to stand united in defending our communities against criminal elements that seek to undermine our safety and sovereignty. We cannot allow fear to dictate our lives or our future.

“The EFF Gauteng has taken note, with serious concern, of the deeping humanitarian and security crisis confronting residents of Sporong, in the Kagiso Area in West Rand. This crisis arises from violent intimidation, terror, and forceful displacement carried out by illegal miners, commonly known as Zama-zamas.

ActionSA Johannesburg Regional Chairperson Themba Mabunda saif that ActionSA notes the continuation of legal proceedings in the murder case of Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, with the bail process set to resume this morning.

“The party remains unwavering in its opposition to the granting of bail, given the extreme seriousness of the crime, the broader context within which it occurred, and the unresolved concerns around accountability, the investigation, and public safety.

The brutal murder of DJ Warras cannot be treated as an ordinary criminal matter. In honesty, it was a violent and deeply disturbing act that has shaken the community and raised serious questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement interventions prior to the loss of life. In cases of this magnitude, the justice system must act with caution and resolve to ensure that decisions taken do not undermine public confidence or place further lives at risk,” he said.

Mabunda further said ActionSA is deeply concerned that, despite the scale and brutality of this murder, only one suspect has been arrested to date.

“The circumstances surrounding DJ Warras’ death display clear indicators of planning, escalation, and sustained threats. Under such conditions, it is reasonable to expect a comprehensive investigation that accounts for all potential role players and failures. The limited progress thus far raises legitimate concerns about whether the full scope of criminal responsibility is being adequately pursued,” he said.

Mabunda further said that of further concern is the fact that more than five protection order warrants were reportedly applied for prior to this murder.

“These applications constituted repeated warnings and clear indications of imminent danger. Yet, despite these red flags, decisive intervention by the South African Police Service did not materialise. This represents a serious failure in the systems meant to protect victims and prevent foreseeable violence. These omissions must be interrogated, and accountability must follow.

Granting bail under these circumstances would send a dangerous message. It would suggest that even where multiple warning signs are present and institutional failures have already had fatal consequences, the justice system is prepared to proceed as though the matter carries no exceptional risk,” he said.

Mabunda said: “This case must also be understood within the broader context of organised criminality and lawlessness, particularly in the inner city, where hijacked and unlawfully occupied buildings have become hubs for criminal syndicates, violence, drug trafficking, and extortion. These conditions persist largely due to weak enforcement and political inaction.”

ActionSA President Herman Mashaba is known to be consistently taken a firm stance against hijacked buildings and the criminal networks that operate within them.
