MKHWANAZI TAKES ON PARLIAMENT AS HE CALLS OUT LEADERSHIP FAILURES IN EXPLOSIVE FINAL TESTIMONY

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has closed the Ad Hoc Committee hearings with a dramatic and confrontational appearance that has left Parliament under pressure.

After months of intense testimony, Mkhwanazi did not hold back.

Instead of simply concluding his evidence, he turned his focus directly on committee members, questioning their leadership, approach and handling of the investigation.

He made it clear that the information he presented was not personal, but the result of a collective investigation, reinforcing the weight of the allegations before Parliament.

But the most striking moment came when he moved to correct the record.

Mkhwanazi requested permission to withdraw one allegation after revealing that a critical error had occurred during the extraction of data from Vusi Matlala’s devices.

According to his testimony, a case of mistaken identity led investigators to link financial transactions to the wrong individual.

The person, who had a number similar to former Police Minister Bheki Cele stored under the name Ndosi, allegedly received money from Matlala.

Believing it was legitimate, the man reportedly spent the money before communication with Matlala suddenly stopped.

Mkhwanazi confirmed that the individual would not face charges.

Despite this correction, he stood firm on all other allegations made earlier in the inquiry, refusing to retract any further claims.

The hearing intensified when a handwritten letter from a prisoner linked to Matlala was introduced.

The letter allegedly implicated high profile figures, including legal representatives connected to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, senior officials within the National Prosecuting Authority and other unnamed SAPS leadership figures.

Mkhwanazi went further, making bold claims about internal power struggles within law enforcement.

He suggested that if Mchunu had remained in office, key cases linked to Matlala could have collapsed and senior leadership positions within SAPS could have been reshaped.

He openly labelled senior officials within the police as untrustworthy and accused others of dishonesty, deepening the sense of division at the highest levels of law enforcement.

The tension spilled into open confrontation during exchanges with Members of Parliament, including a heated moment with MP Fadiel Adams.

But the proceedings continued.

In a powerful closing message, Mkhwanazi urged the committee to go further and seize the devices and full administrative records of Minister Mchunu as part of the investigation.

He also outlined what he described as the three critical drivers of crime in South Africa, pointing to cash in transit heists, tender systems and border control failures.

As the hearings officially come to an end, Committee Chairperson Soviet Lekganyane confirmed that the findings will soon be released to the public.

Now the country waits.

Because what started as a parliamentary inquiry has now exposed deep fractures within South Africa’s law enforcement leadership.

And the final report could have serious consequences for some of the most powerful figures in the system.

Business Mogul Calvin Mojalefa Mathibeli has responded after the South African Police Services (SAPS) raided his offices again today.

This comes after SAPS allegedly raided multiple business premises of Calvin and Family Group were raided for the third time on Tuesday midday.

“Over the past seven years we have been subjected to repeated and unlawful attempts by certain members of the South African Police Service to target both Chairman and The Company.

The latest action, involving a search and seizure operation based on false and misleading allegations is simply another continuation of this pattern of harassment.

“This development does not come as a surprise to us. It forms part of a broader effort to conceal and justify rogue operations that have been directed against us for more than 7 years. While the current events may appear new to the public, they are in fact part of a long history of intimidation, harassment and abuse of power that we have consistently endured behind the scenes,” he said.

Mathibeli said that after multiple failed attempts to damage their reputation and operations through baseless investigations and unlawful actions, the authorities have now resorted to opening a case.

“We view this move as yet another desperate attempt to legitimize actions that have no lawful or factual basis. We must also place on record that what we are witnessing is not merely misconduct by individual officers but a disturbing pattern of abuse of state power that appears to benefit certain private interests within the security industry. There is a network of individuals who seek to manipulate law enforcement structures to eliminate business competition.

“Approximately 4 years ago, a security company owner from Gauteng entered my premises and demanded that I share my business with him. I refused. Since that moment, a campaign of intimidation and interference has followed. This same individual later lost a security contract to our company and has repeatedly boasted about his alleged influence and control over certain members of the police,” he said.

Mathibeli who is married to former Gagasi and Ukhozi FM radio producer and actress Simangele Mathibeli said this individual is a former police officer whom during his time in the SAPS in Gauteng, was allegedly involved in criminal activities including the use of police vehicles in heists.

“Even after leaving the service, his conduct has continued to reflect the same pattern of intimidation and unlawful influence. In the most recent incident in December 2025, he approached one of our client and attempted to convince them to pressure me into sharing our contract with him, In return he promised that all the “problems with the police” that we have been experiencing would immediately disappear.

“This statement alone demonstrates the level of manipulation and collusion that exists between certain private individuals and elements within law enforcement.

This same individual has reportedly been sharing information about planned police raids on our offices with his associates, raising serious concerns about how sensitive operational information is being handled and who truly controls certain policing actions,” he said.

Mathubeli said it is deeply concerning that the SAPS appears to be captured and manipulated by individuals seeking to settle business rivalries through state machinery.

“Law enforcement institutions should protect citizens and businesses, not serve as tools for private vendettas and anti-competitive conduct. Despite these ongoing attempts to intimidate and silence us, we remain confident that the truth will ultimately prevail. We will continue to cooperate with lawful processes while also exposing the abuse of power and corruption that has been directed against us.

The truth shall come out,” he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, MDNtv News reported that law enforcement agencies were currently raiding multiple properties linked to Mathibeli in four South African provinces in connection with a tender fraud case registered in Johannesburg.

Search warrants were secured earlier this week, and investigators are seizing documents and other materials believed to be relevant to the probe into alleged irregularities in government contracts.

The scope of the raids underscores growing scrutiny of Mathibeli’s business dealings, particularly in logistics, security and construction sectors.

Mathibeli has been no stranger to public controversy, having previously taken an adversarial stance against the South African Police Service (SAPS).

He has publicly accused Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the KwaZulu‑Natal provincial police commissioner, of harassment and abuse of power, alleging that senior police officers targeted his family, employees and business premises in a campaign of intimidation claims that SAPS has dismissed as baseless.

The feud between Mathibeli and Mkhwanazi has spilled into the courts, with the police commissioner securing a High Court interdict to stop Mathibeli from repeating defamatory allegations against him.

Mkhwanazi has denied the accusations and is pursuing legal action, saying the claims have caused reputational harm.

Madlanga Commission to Rule on Controversial ANC-Linked Businessman’s Secret Testimony Request

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is expected to deliver a written judgment on Monday regarding a request by ANC member and North West businessman Suleiman Carrim to testify in camera.

Carrim’s application has sparked a major controversy ahead of his scheduled testimony before the Commission.

His legal team argues that appearing in a public hearing could place his life at risk. They maintain that Carrim and his family have been subjected to threats, forcing him to spend significant amounts of money on private security.

However, the Commission has disputed claims that Carrim was left without protection.

During proceedings, evidence leader Advocate Adila Hassim told the Commission that Carrim had previously been offered protection services but declined them.

Hassim raised the issue in response to Carrim’s claim that he has had to cover the costs of private security himself due to safety concerns.

Carrim’s lawyer, Advocate Kameel Premhid, argued that the request for in-camera proceedings is based on ongoing threats against Carrim and his family. According to Premhid, these threats include warnings that Carrim’s businesses could be burned down and that his family could be tracked even if they relocate.

The legal team told the Commission that the threats have created a serious risk to Carrim’s safety should his testimony take place in a public hearing.

Carrim is not new to controversy and has been linked to several allegations connected to a cancelled R360 million South African Police Service (SAPS) tender.

He is accused of receiving R1.5 million from controversial businessman Vusimuzi Matlala, who has been linked to the tender scandal.

Carrim has also been associated with suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, with reports of WhatsApp messages exchanged between Mchunu, Matlala and Carrim emerging during the course of investigations.

Carrim’s legal team had previously challenged the subpoena issued by the Commission in court but lost the case. They later secured a postponement of his appearance from an earlier date to 9 and 10 March, citing the need for additional preparation time.

On Friday, Carrim’s lawyers filed an interlocutory application requesting that his testimony be heard privately.

During the hearing, Commission chairperson Justice Mbuyiseni Madlanga expressed concern about the wording used in Carrim’s affidavit. Madlanga said the language appeared to suggest that the Commission had been responsible for the deaths of witnesses.

The Commissioner described this suggestion as serious and inappropriate, especially given the sensitive context of previous witness deaths linked to investigations, including Witness D and Wiandre Pretorius.

Madlanga also noted that previous applications for in-camera testimony had been dealt with openly and questioned what made Carrim’s situation different enough to justify secrecy.

He indicated that the Commission would need to carefully consider whether the application meets the legal threshold for private proceedings.

Evidence leader Sesi Baloyi also opposed Carrim’s request, arguing that he had not provided sufficient grounds to justify testifying behind closed doors.

Baloyi further argued that keeping the alleged threats confidential could prevent full public disclosure and undermine transparency in the Commission’s work.

She added that the application may have already been compromised by information that has entered the public domain.

The Commission is expected to release its written ruling on Monday, which will determine whether Carrim will testify in a public hearing or behind closed doors when he appears before the Madlanga Commission.

SAPS KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is at the High Court in Durban today for his urgent legal battle against businessman Calvin Mathibeli.

The case stems from a public feud where Mathibeli accused Mkhwanazi of harassment and ordering raids on his properties.

As if that was not enough, Mathibeli made allegations that the commissioner calls baseless attempts to tarnish his reputation amid ongoing probes into alleged corruption and criminal ties.

Court papers show Mkhwanazi is seeking declaration that Mathibeli’s statements are false and defamatory, an interdict preventing repetition of the claims and removal and retraction of posts on social media, radio and TV.

The courtroom showdown is being closely watched as they has been two attempts by national SAPS to raid his offices from Fourways to Durban’s Umhlanga and his house too.

Mkhwanazi filed his urgent court papers on Friday in Durban High and the proceedings have begun.

Suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi’s Empire May Soon Come Crumbling Down As Jail Looms

It doesn’t rain but it pours for the embattled and suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi.

This comes after Acting IPID National Head of Investigations Thuso Keefelakae confirmed that probes into Mkhwanazi and other members are complete with disciplinary recommendations submitted to both departments on February 4,

Mkhwanazi and other officials could soon face prosecution for truck hijacking, murder, and misuse of state property.

Suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi, along with other EMPD and SAPS officials, could soon face criminal prosecution following testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. 2026.

While appearing at the Madlanga Commission, Keefelakae explained that the same case dockets were referred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for a decision on prosecution.

He highlighted that the investigations were prosecutor-guided, providing step-by-step oversight to address evidentiary gaps, including a “missing link” that strengthened the case.

The prosecution decision on at least one matter, related to the killing of a person referred to as “Kaplan”, is expected before the end of February.

Broader allegations aired at the commission include leading a rogue EMPD unit, involvement in corruption linked to irregular deals with private security firms, abuse of blue-light privileges, extortion, kidnapping, and alleged murder cover-ups.

Keefelakae expressed frustration over EMPD’s “lack of appetite” to implement disciplinary recommendations, noting that he personally signed off on the report due to the strength of the evidence.

Mkhwanazi has denied many of the allegations in prior testimony and remains suspended as IPID’s findings await the NPA’s prosecution decision.

The Madlanga Commission continues today.

Controversial Forensic Investigator Paul O’Sullivan threatens to withdraw his cooperation with the AdHocCommittee, saying he did not come to be interrogated over allegations made by criminals.

He insists he appeared to give evidence on corruption in the criminal justice system and warns that if the hearing turns into a “kangaroo court” focused on defending himself, he will not continue assisting the committee.

It seemed as if O’Sullivan was angered by EFF leader Julius Malema who requesting that their legal team or parliamentary secretary to get the Acsa advert where they were advertising the position which they offered to O’Sullivan.

O’Sullivan jumped and said:

“Am I here to give evidence or to be interrogated? I am going to withdraw my cooperation. I am not going to assist in a kangaroo court. I came here to give evidence about the corruption in the criminal justice system which has resulted in the mess that we have in the criminal justice system today.

“The false allegations that have been made against me will take a lot more than an hour to get through. And if it’s going to be curtailed because people don’t want to hear the truth, it means what we’re actually doing is not allowing a witness to explain why this happened and why that happened.”

He further accused other witnesses of peddling false narratives that he had infiltrated the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) for ulterior motives.

“What I cannot contemplate is that everyone should think I woke up one day and decided to infiltrate IPID, the police and the NPA, because that pack of lies has been peddled in this House by multiple witnesses that belong in prison.

“I didn’t come here just to defend myself against the allegations of criminals. And if that’s the only thing the committee wants to hear, then it will be a problem, because the reality is that those allegations were only made against me because I took steps to hold them accountable for their criminal conduct,” he said.

O’Sullivan will continue with his testimony today at 10:00am.

Following the damning allegations that they swindled millions at the City Of Ekurhuleni, Radio 2000 presenter Sbu “Dj Sbu” Leope has responded to the allegations.

The Remember When It Rains producer and Businessman and former ANC Gauteng Treasury Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza, were fingered by suspended Head of Legal and Risk Services Kemi Behari that they unduly benefitted over R100 million in the City of Ekurhuleni.

Responding to the allegations, Dj Sbu

“I, Sbusiso “DJ Sbu” Leope WeNkosi, hereby issue this statement in response to the false, misleading, and unsubstantiated allegations that have been circulated in the public domain by the suspended Head of Legal and Risk Services at the City of Ekurhuleni, Advocate Kemi Behari.

These allegations, which attempt to implicate myself and businessman Thembinkosi TK Nciza, are entirely false, defamatory, and without any factual basis,” he wrote.

Leope denied any involvement in wrongdoing, misconduct, or unethical activity of any kind.

“Throughout my career in broadcasting, entrepreneurship, and public service, I have conducted myself with integrity, transparency, and respect for the law. My work across media, business, and community development has always been guided by principles of accountability and positive social impact.

“I am deeply concerned that these allegations appear to be part of an attempt to divert attention from ongoing internal matters and personal accountability issues by creating false narratives involving respected public figures,” he wrote.

Leope said he never participated in any illegal activity, have not benefited from any improper conduct, have not influenced any legal or administrative processes unlawfully and have not colluded with any individual or institution inappropriately.

He said any suggestion to the contrary is a fabrication.

“I reserve all my legal rights and remedies in relation to these defamatory statements and will not hesitate to pursue appropriate action should these false claims continue to damage my reputation and personal brand. I remain confident that due process, truth, and transparency will ultimately prevail.

“I urge the public, media, and stakeholders to exercise caution, verify facts, and avoid amplifying unverified claims that serve only to mislead and harm innocent parties.

My focus remains on serving my audience, building ethical businesses, creating employment, and contributing meaningfully to the development of our society,” he wrote.

Leope said he will continue to cooperate fully with any lawful investigation and welcome any process that is grounded in fairness, evidence, and justice.
