Her return comes after weeks in the ICU recovering from burn injuries linked to an incident that unfolded during a heated confrontation with her boyfriend.

The situation escalated on 9 January 2026 in Umlazi in the South if Durban in KZN where she suffered burnt wounds.

According to police reports and multiple news outlets, the conflict began when Nenezane accused her boyfriend of physically assaulting her.

She had previously opened several cases against him, claiming that authorities were slow to act. Her social media posts about the alleged abuse went viral, drawing national attention and sparking public outrage.

“Dear friends and family. It feels truly surreal to be writing this, but my heart is overflowing with gratitude and excitement as I announce my official return to work on March 1st 2026. As many of you know, I’ve been away, navigating a challenging recovery from an injury that took me away from what I love doing most working with all of you.

“This past while has been a profound journey, both physically and emotionally. There were days that felt incredibly long and moments filled with uncertainty. But through it all, one thing shone brighter than anything else: your unwavering support. Every single message, every WhatsApp, every phone call they weren’t just notifications; they were lifelines. They were tangible reminders of your kindness, your care, and the incredible community I’m so privileged to be a part of,” she wrote.

Nenezane said she was counting down the days until she can reconnect, dive back in, and continue our work together.

“Thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, for everything. I can’t wait to see you all soon,” she wrote.

Police said Nenezane suffered burn wounds while allegedly setting her boyfriend’s car alight during an Instagram Live session.

The vehicle burned completely, and she was rushed to hospital, where she spent days under close observation in the ICU.

Police later confirmed that she would face counter‑charges of assault and malicious damage to property once discharged.

Throughout her recovery, Nenezane remained mostly silent, but her supporters did not. Celebrities, activists, and ordinary South Africans rallied behind her, calling for stronger action against gender‑based violence.

Organisations like Women For Change condemned the systemic failures that force survivors to turn to social media for help.

Now, after weeks of physical and emotional healing, Nenezane has announced her return to work.

She described the journey as overwhelming and said the support she received kept her going. She expressed gratitude for every message and call, saying they reminded her that she was not alone.

Her comeback marks a moment of rebuilding. While investigations continue and legal matters remain unresolved, she is choosing to reclaim her space, her clients, and her sense of normalcy. For many who have followed her story, her return is a sign of resilience after a painful and public ordeal.

In a heartbreaking incident that has shaken a small Canadian town, authorities have identified an 18-year-old as the suspect in a shooting that claimed eight lives and left many others wounded.

The suspect, Jesse Van Rootselaar, was discovered at the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead. Investigators are still working to uncover the reasons behind this senseless act of violence.

The tragedy unfolded at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, where six people lost their lives: a 39-year-old female educator, three 12-year-old girls, a 12-year-old boy, and a 13-year-old boy. At least 25 others were injured, with some airlifted to hospitals for urgent care. Earlier that day, two more victims—the suspect’s 39-year-old mother and 11-year-old step-brother—were found deceased at a nearby home.

Officials confirmed that Van Rootselaar, who had been born male, began transitioning to female about six years ago. The sequence of events began at the home before moving to the school, and authorities believe no other individuals were involved.

Over the years, police had responded to the family’s residence several times, often for concerns related to mental health. The suspect was familiar to local law enforcement and had once held a valid firearms license, which had expired. Van Rootselaar had left Tumbler Ridge Secondary School four years prior.

Around 1:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday, emergency calls reported an active shooter at the school. Responding officers arrived within two minutes, entered amid ongoing gunfire, and quickly located the suspect. Two weapons—a long gun and a modified handgun—were recovered, though their specific use in the attack is still under investigation.

Tumbler Ridge, a close-knit community of about 2,400 people in British Columbia, is grappling with the aftermath. The secondary school serves just 160 students in grades 7 through 12. In a poignant address, the town’s mayor urged residents to support one another: “Lend your ear when someone needs it. Offer a shoulder to cry on. Give a hug to those who are hurting.”

The prime minister described the ordeal as one of “unheard-of cruelty,” emphasizing the bravery of the students and staff while noting that some survivors continue to fight for their lives in hospital.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on healing and understanding how such a devastating event could occur in this peaceful corner of Canada.

The mass funeral of the six family members who tragically lost their lives in the horrific N2 road crash in Mtubatuba on Friday, 30 January, will be held at Mawombe Stadium – Umfolozi Local Municipality on Sunday,sa 8 February 2026.

The Nyatee Foundation has expressed its profound sorrow and deepest condolences to the loved ones. The lives lost include Mama Nokuphakama “MaMdletshe” Mnyango (85), Mama Makhosi kaMnyango Mthembu (52), Mvuyani Gcaleka (43), Senamile Buthelezi (29), Ayanda Pearl Mthembu (12), and Banzi Buthelezi (6).

This devastating incident has left an entire community in mourning and disbelief, as families grapple with an immeasurable loss that words alone cannot heal.

Moved by compassion and a deep sense of humanity, the Nyatee Foundation recently visited the bereaved families to offer heartfelt support, comfort, and solidarity during this incredibly painful time. The Foundation’s delegation spent time with the families, listening to their stories, sharing in their grief, and offering emotional, spiritual, and material support to help ease the burden of their suffering. The Nyatee Foundation has also extended its hand towards assisting with burial arrangements and thereafter.

“This is not just a tragedy; it is a wound that cuts through the heart of the community. The loss of six lives in one family is unimaginable. No parent, child, sibling, or relative should ever have to endure such pain. As a Foundation, we believe that compassion must move beyond words into action. Our presence here is a commitment to walk alongside these families, not only today, but in the days, weeks, and months ahead,” Nyatee Foundation spokesperson, Thobile Mchunu, shared.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Lindelani Gcaleka said they are at a loss for words.

“It has been devastating. I do not have the words to describe what we witnessed at the scene of the accident. The car was a total write-off, and some of the members were disfigured. We do not wish this even on our enemies. We wake up every day thinking that it is a lie. We are truly heartbroken.”

The Nyatee Foundation emphasized the importance of collective care, unity, and community healing, calling on local leaders, organisations, faith-based institutions, and community members to come together in love and support for the grieving families. The Foundation highlighted that healing is a journey that requires patience, understanding, and consistent support.

Beyond the visit, the Nyatee Foundation has committed to ongoing assistance, ensuring that the family is not left alone to face the long road of recovery and healing. This support forms part of the Foundation’s broader mission to serve communities in times of crisis, restore dignity, and uphold the values of empathy, compassion, and social responsibility

“In moments like these, humanity must speak louder than despair. We stand in solidarity with the families of Mtubatuba. Their pain is our pain, and their healing matters to all of us.”

The family of a man who was found hanging in a tree in a foreign country now seeking help to repatriate the body to South Africa.

Thabang Matanye Mokonyane from Mokopane in Limpopo went to Zimbabwe with his girlfriend Khathutshelo Mbedzi, whose father is Zimbabwean and mother South African to visit her family since it was a festive season.

Mokonyane is the son of Mokgadi Tryphina Mokonyane.

According to the Forum for South Africa (FOSA) they have been approached regarding the matter of Mokonyane.

“Thabang had travelled to Zimbabwe with his girlfriend, Khathutshelo and the family became concerned on 1 January after losing contact with him. It was later confirmed that his lifeless body was found hanged on a tree and is currently being kept at a mortuary in Zimbabwe,” the statement reads.

FOSA further said the family is devastated, financially distressed and unable to repatriate the body to South Africa for burial.

“They are appealing for urgent assistance to ensure that their loved one is brought home and laid to rest with dignity. The family has further expressed serious concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding Thabang Mokonyane’s death and is requesting that the matter be handled with transparency and urgency by the relevant authorities.

FOSA was contacted yesterday (Sunday) to assist the family and to escalate the matter to the appropriate stakeholders.

FOSA called on Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), The South African High Commission in Zimbabwe and the relevant law enforcement and consular services to intervene without delay.

“They must assist the family with repatriation processes and ensure that the circumstances of the death are properly attended to. We appeal to community members, organisations.and good Samaritans who may be able to support the family during this painful time.No family should be left helpless and stranded in grief across borders,” the statement reads.

Mahikeng: North West Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi has expressed sadness at the passing of the 104-year-old Mma Mmutle Mothandi who passed away on Tuesday, 30 December 2025.

Last year around October, the 7th administration, led by Premier Mokgosi, intervened on a pressing need that was identified through the Premier’s Operation Dignity Programme by building a Temporary Residential Unit and a house which had furniture for Mma Mothandi, who was staying with her children and grandchildren. The family was further provided with cutlery and tools to start a fast-food business, for self-sustenance. At the time, Mma Mothandi appreciated the intervention and believed it would outlive her and would ensure lasting dignity for her family.

The Premier’s Operation Dignity Programme commits to ensuring that she gets a funeral service befitting her stature, tenacious character and resilience. The service will be held as follows:

Date: Saturday, 10 January 2026

Venue: Ward 16 Mmamokete Section outside Zeerust, Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality.

Time: 6:00am

Elderly women from deep rural communities in northern KwaZulu-Natal say they will remain forever grateful after receiving food parcels that helped them get through the festive season with dignity.

The women were among hundreds of vulnerable residents who benefitted from a food distribution drive led through the Mike Mabuyakhulu Foundation, which distributed 800 food parcels to households facing severe hardship.

Among the recipients were Nanile Gumede from Haliya Village, Bajabulile Shangase from Gumbi Village and Manesi Ntombi Menyuka from Othobothini in Jozini, an area where unemployment and poverty continue to affect many families.

They said the festive season would have been marked by hunger if the intervention had not arrived when it did.

Gumede said her household is stretched by unemployment and dependency on social grants.

“I’m staying with five unemployed kids of mine and thirteen grandkids. No one is employed and we rely more on social grants. When I was informed that I was nominated to be part of the recipients, I was excited because I knew we were going to enjoy December holidays like any other families,” she said.

Shangase described the moment she was called forward as overwhelming.

“I was over the moon when I was mentioned to come forward and received. The joy I had, I even wished to throw away my walking stick but I was going to fall down,” she said.

Menyuka said the support is vital in communities where many older women are widowed and unemployed.

“I’m grateful to the Mike Mabuyakhulu Foundation for what they are doing for the people of Jozini. I wish him nothing but more heart to give because he knows that most people here are widows and are unemployed,” she said.

Ward 8 Branch Task Team Coordinator Mandisa Shabangu said the initiative strengthened local efforts to support the elderly and address youth unemployment.

“We are very grateful to be part of this initiative and we continue working together, especially since we want to work with them in assisting the youth to be empowered education-wise and get jobs. We are very grateful and we wish to do more come December 2026,” she said.

Community leaders say the need for food support remains urgent as many households continue to rely on grants, informal work and seasonal support, especially during school holidays when costs rise.

The foundation has indicated that its outreach focuses on food security and community support in vulnerable areas, with local partners calling for continued collaboration beyond festive seasons.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, a cash-in-transit armoured vehicle was travelling through Thokoza when it was allegedly rammed by a white Mercedes-Benz, causing it to capsize.

“A number of suspects then disarmed the security officers and bombed the armoured vehicle. They took an undisclosed amount of cash, while other suspects fired shots at the escort vehicle,” Masondo said.

He added that the suspects fled the scene in four separate vehicles.

“A 13-year-old girl was struck by a stray bullet and was taken to hospital for medical treatment. Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects,” Masondo said.

South Africa has been ranked the world’s most generous country in a new global study, a finding that stands in contrast to the country’s ongoing economic challenges and high levels of inequality.

The ranking, based on international research measuring behaviours such as empathy, kindness, patience and support for others, placed South Africa at the top of a list of 25 countries surveyed.

South Africans demonstrating generosity and community spirit, reflected in a global study ranking the country as the world’s most generous nation

Researchers found that South Africans consistently scored highly in non-financial acts of generosity, including emotional support, community care and a willingness to help others, even in times of hardship.

The findings come at a time when many households are facing rising living costs, unemployment and service delivery pressures, yet community-based support systems such as stokvels, burial societies, feeding schemes and informal care networks continue to play a critical role across the country.

Social analysts say the results reflect deeply rooted cultural values that prioritise collective wellbeing,

often referred to locally as Ubuntu, where individuals see their humanity as connected to the wellbeing of others.

While the study focused on behavioural indicators rather than income or wealth, the ranking highlights how generosity in South Africa is frequently expressed through time, care and shared responsibility rather than financial giving alone.

The results have sparked renewed discussion about the resilience of community networks and the role they play in sustaining social cohesion during difficult economic periods.

Mashatile encouraged citizens to use the Christmas period to strengthen family bonds, care for the vulnerable, and extend kindness to those in need, particularly communities facing economic hardship.

He acknowledged the sacrifices made by frontline workers including police officers, healthcare professionals, emergency services, and essential workers who remain on duty during the holidays to keep the country safe and functioning.
