]]>Matlala, together with Musa Kekana, Tiego Floyd Mabusela, and Tsakani Matlala, appeared before the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Johannesburg on Thursday.

The accused are facing 25 charges, including 11 counts of attempted murder, linked to three separate shooting incidents allegedly committed between August 2022 and January 2024.
According to NPA Communications Officer for the Gauteng Division in Johannesburg, Magaboke Mohlatlole, the trial is scheduled to commence on 20 July 2026.
Counsel representing Matlala informed the court that they intend to bring an application to compel the State to provide outstanding particulars that were previously requested.
That application is expected to be heard on 15 June 2026.
Accused number five also indicated plans to submit representations to the Office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions following the rejection of earlier representations by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mohlatlole said the State alleges that the accused orchestrated a shooting, laundered money linked to the alleged plot, and used a fraudulent invoice to conceal the source of the funds and mislead the court.
“Accused one, two, and three remain in custody, while the bail of accused four and five has been extended,” said Mohlatlole.
The State has confirmed that it is ready to proceed with the trial on the scheduled date.

]]>The Johannesburg High Court has postponed the pre trial hearing of alleged crime boss Vusimuzi Cat Matlala and his four co accused to 6 February 2026, granting additional time for legal consultations and arguments around his detention location.
Matlala, who faces multiple attempted murder and related charges together with his wife Tsakane Matlala, is currently being held at eBongweni Super Maximum Correctional Centre.
His legal team has argued that his detention outside Gauteng severely limits access to their client and undermines trial preparation. The defence is formally seeking his transfer closer to the Johannesburg High Court, where proceedings are being heard.
The court has indicated it will consider the transfer request while the matter remains postponed.
This case continues to draw national attention due to the seriousness of the charges and the legal questions around detainee access and fair trial preparation.
